I have recently converted my LC from a 138 to a worked 202 60thou over with trimatic, hilux diff 3.55 gears, etc. The car still has its original radiator and is running hot when given a bit of hell and also at idle in traffic. I am going to replace the radiator and want to know if anyone can advise me of what is the best radiator to put in, if anyone has one or where to get one. I am aware of the standard 2 core Adrad but am wondering if this would keep it cool or if there is a better option??

I think Adrad/Natra still make cores for these in South Australia. I'd talk to them and see what they can do. You may still be able to get a high density (HD) radiator core with fins closer together.

Hi there Mark,

Those symptoms of yours,

are the same I had with the same worked 208,

living in Sydney at the time, stuck in traffic was a panic.

So after a few years, I stumbled across a Radiator guy,

who said, why don't you try a triple core v8 radiator with HQ top and bottom tanks,

as the water in and outlets are the same as the little Six.

So I said, I will give it a go, and $330 bucks later back then in 1990,

I never looked back.

Best thing ever, can now do what ever we like and never gets HOTsteaming.gif

You need to modify the mountings to fit:-

No they are not.
The 350 Chev fitted HQ holden had a radiator that is very similar to the Holden 6 fittings.

You could also buy a kit, thru NATRAD that had all new parts, 3 core, wide side bands, top and bottom tank and fittings, that had to be assembled.
this could be bought in 6 and 8 configurations.

something happened down that line, and worked.  :D

HJ-HZ 6cyl with A/C or HD radiator had the same 3 row as a V8 with A/C, just with 6cyl outlets. This is the one I have always used with a SBC, just move the bottom outlet to the top and put a big one on the bottom. You can put an Aussie made 4 row Natra core in these. Not sure if they fit an LC though, but they fit LH-UC if you trim the rear shroud mount.

I had my original rebuilt with a 3 core,it's to suit an air conditioned auto XU1 so the book said,it fits straight back in,no cutting anything, looks like it's supposed to be there,I run the original fan, only issue I had was I had to fit a 190 thermostat coz the bloody thing ran to cold.
It never hot running at around half scale on the gauge, engine is a worked 202 bored 60 thou,I live in mildura with summer temps around 45 so it works cost me $400

I ran mine for about 6 months with the standard core,no heating issues, only reason I replaced mine was because it was corroded in the fins
