This may or may not have been covered before but can you and if so how easy is it to convert an LX Torana to have intermittent wipers?
What unit would be best to use.
Any feedback would be appreciated.
cheers Dane

You could use a UC item.
The dwell knob would need to be put somewhere though.

Thanks Col, I didn't know that UC's had them.

Look for an SL/E.

I used the UC setup in mine easy to install if you have a basic understanding of wiring. Bosh also do a universal dwell unit but they are starting to get a bit harder to buy new. I hooked up mine through the high speed wiper circuit.

I've used a dunnydore blinker stalk with dwell switch setup from same model vb- vk with a couple of relays. Works fine with standard motor. From memory I have a sle uc switch and had dramas so went the vb setup.

Dane,
UC one will plug straight in. Just need to relocate the Dwell knob. (if you're not running a choke, you can use the choke hole.

After reading much around here about the blinker/ind. stalks ect. i got the impression that LH had a foot operated hi/lo beam switch with wiper switch on the dash?whereas the LX had hi/lo beam on the stalk with the wiper switch on the dash ?, the the mighty UC had wipers and hi/lo beam on the stalk.
Then i had a look at the plugs of the switch gear in coffee pot to main harness from LH,LX,UC,como.(unsure of model como, but the como. setup had a different plug from the rest) , and the pinouts from LH/X/UC to main harness were all different ?
easier just to make up or buy an intermittent wiper gizmo and wire it in to the existing circuit with a dwell control in an unused spot somewhere handy with the right switch gear to make it work in both int. and "normal" modes.

Is a Torana wiper motor a "self parking" type?
If so there is the Hella 7010 kit and the knob even looks like it might suit an LX too...

This is UC SL/E

I would assume the UC unit should be just that anyway, early Commodore (e.g. VK) are definitely stand alone (aside from wiring to the wiper motor of course) and work fineeasier just to make up or buy an intermittent wiper gizmo and wire it in to the existing circuit with a dwell control in an unused spot somewhere handy with the right switch gear to make it work in both int. and "normal" modes.

When you splice the UC Intermittent Wiper control into the LX Wiper set up, it doesn't go anywhere near the steering column Harness..

I was thinking that the stalk was replaced with UC setup and that the int. function was operated from the stalk....got me wires crossed..my mistake.

Early Commodore wiper dwell look very similar to the UC units but activate differently to UC, HZ etc.
The Commodore control box is an opaque white colour & is not interchangeable with the UC, HZ control box (the black box in RODOMO's picture)

Unless you adjust the wiring to suit of courseThe Commodore control box is an opaque white colour & is not interchangeable with the UC, HZ control box (the black box in RODOMO's picture)

Thanks for all the feedback.
I have latched onto an UC switch today and if I get time over the weekend I'll have a crack at fitting it.

Just a question about the UC that had the int. wipers fitted , was the int. function a "switched" position on the stalk that enabled the
int. wiper function to work rather than the spring loaded one shot on the others ?...or did they use the same one shot spring loaded switch to trigger some sort of latchable circuit that was then de-latched by doing the same as if to turn the int. on again ?
