A 186/202 cubic inch strait six with a bit of work (head, nice pistons, cam, ignition, carbie for example) that is tuned nicely can outperform a 3800 Buick V6 in a Commodore.

If that same V6 was put into another Torana, it would probably outperform the Torana with the warm 186/202.

That's mainly due to the weight differences... give you some idea?

Heath's right, but Newby mentioned he had a VS, which isnt the Buick V6, it's the Ecotec, which would perform slightly better than the boat ancher buick...

On the dyno, a mates low km VS ecotec made 100rwkW, my 179 on the dyno made 101.3rwkW...

But thats not to say the ecotec's are not a quick motor. With a few breathing mods, the ecotec's are a powerful motor.

Cheers

well, what times do a stock VS run down the qtr? Like 17's? 16's?

My 253 ran a 15 with a fuel surge issue....

Its very hard to compare these two cars.... There is so much variation, give us something to go on and we will give you an answer

Spend a few dollars on the old 6 and they are just as quick or quicker than the v6 commy's, I've spent a bit more on my 202 and it ran a 13.5 down the 1/4 which is probably quicker than most SS Commodores.

Can do anything with $$$, How far do you want to go?

As Heath said with a few cheap mods these motor can go quite well and in a Light Car make for great fun, especially up against P platers with V6 Commodores, lol.

lol, hey mate, watch it, im a P plater lol... but no commodore! i got a Thunder dome race 202 with redline manifold, pacemaker extractors and 350 holley.
Putting a turbo in aswelll if all goes to plans so i should be quite fun.

How long is a piece of string?

Line up against your old HB Torana, even with Peter Brock driving and you would probably beat him in reverse.

Line up against an 73 XU-1 and it would be a totaly different story.

You could always put the VS motor in a LC/J and then it would fly. :tease:

My old torana motor pisses all over my 300kw gts coupe so I wouldnt imagine an ecotec commodore having much chance.
I guess it depends on whos torana you wanna compare your commodore to.

Up against my mates SV6 Commodore at the lights, i blew the doors off him.

I came up to a VY SS the other day, i was in second gear, i gave him a bit of a rev, Then we both flattened it. Basically dead even until i backed off at around 130km/h.
