I don't think it matters. It is illegal to spray 2 pack at home without the proper equipment, i.e. boot, filters, etc.

Acrylic is alot more forgiving, gives a deeper shine (when applied, blocked and polished correctly), can be touched up without having to do whole panels, doesn't require exact mixtures base to thinners.

On the downside, is labour intensive, reacts badly with enamel, chips fairly easily, doesn't last as long.

It's a chalk and cheese comparison, two pack is everything acrylic is not.

Interestingly enough, with computer controlled sprays, most new cars are still done in acrylic. Seems to be only the auto-repairers that use 2 pack.

^ oh also with acrylic you have to be careful with your plastics and other vulnerable materials. The thinners are fairly agressive.

I think you'll find that nearly all cars these day are sprayed in 2pak and have done so form mid way thru the 90's.

yeh i have thought the same things many times.... 2pac or acrylic?

I have gone acrylic wit both my cars but thats only cos i couldnt afford 2pac, if either are done right they will look awesome! But as said before acrylic requires more labour, if u stuff it up u can fix it, with 2k u cant....

My next job i want to get done in 2k.... or spend a shitload of time with a top shelf acrylic job (read loooooooooong time)

i personally have found the only problem is with the mixing with 2K, other than that, forget its 2K and treat it like any other spray job, includent touch up and repairs.
its a real basterd to rub out tho.

2k is awsome for off the gun finish on odd shaped parts where you cant polish it up.

acryllic is great for small/medium body repairs esp with origional paint jobs.

Is there things you have to look out for when spraying acrylic, like warm weather, spray tips etc etc?

any type of spraying is prone to problems with humidity and temp.

there is just too much to list.

my best tip is invest $20 or $30 odd on a second hand or new tech book dedicated to this subject.

2Pac is basically a clear over base system which generally uses a catalyst (hardener) in the clear coat and give a more durable finish, downside, as stated above, it does not lend well to spot repairs and is not as forgiving as acrylic.

2Pac ideally should be painted in a boothe with all the protective gear being worn as it does contain some carginogenic causing substances, oh and its bad for the environment too!

I hope that helps.

not all 2k is COB.

I have only sprayed 2k and I love it! it goes on nicely, shines off the gun.
here is a pic of my car that I sprayed on back lawn in 2k, all these pics are straight off teh gun, I want to cut and polish it to get it looking awesome
