Hi guys just about to recieve my 308 and just trying to work out if roller rockers fit under the standard valve covers. (I am assuming not) and what valve covers has any one used on their early head 308 engines with rollers.

Cheers from Mick

From my experience the Crane roller rockers with fit standard covers with one gasket each side , The yella terra roller rockers will require two gaskets per each standard cover .

If your not bothered about the standard look , the aftermarket alloy covers are a little higher to fit the yella terra rockers in and they seal better than the tin ones .

Do the alloy covers foul any where at the back of the motor.eg booster or heater box.

No fouling, quite close to the booster but you can still get it on and off with a bit of wriggling

If you have screw in studs then they will not fit under standard covers and bolt on rockers do.

Another option is a rocker cover spacer or shim, have seen them in different thicknesses, 6mm and 10mm, if painted a suitable colour most people probably wouldn't notice them.

From memory the early brock commodores, group 3, VH? had chrome covers with roller rockers underneath.

It probably helps if you use non-adjustable rockers but then that's half the advantage gone

if you have big springs the retainers hit on the inside of the alloy type valve cover I hogged out grooves in mine with a die grinder

Even a moderate size spring the retainer will just catch the cover, but a big spring and retainer you certainly have to do as Tim has mentioned.
