I Was sorting out the engine bay wiring today and found these two resistors on the distributor / tacho wire , any idea what they would be there for ? do I get rid of them ?

They are not original and should not be necessary with an original GTR Tachometer and original points distributor.

Could the car have been fitted with an electronic ignition system that made it necessary to have those resistors to make the tacho work properly???

It hasn't been on the road for twenty years , were they fitting them in the 90's ?

I don't think so , the wiring looked like old original 6 cylinder  .

MSD units were around in the 80's as were the HEI ignitions in the Commodores & WB's. That said I don't think the installation of a HEI from a Blue or Black 6 would have required any resistors be fitted to the GTR tachometer trigger wire.

was just chatting to the sparky upgrading my loom only yesterdy actually on Hei.asked whether im going to run std points

or Hei...told him std but down the track i will change to electronic dissy.so he just put another pink wire through and terminal

all he said was the std points wire is a resistance wire and only gives the coil approx 8 volts which isnt suitable for Hei

Are they on the positive power feed to the tach or the signal wire from the dizzy?

They are on the tacho wire Terry , never seen it before and are not shown on the diagram , a lot of odd things on the car , the windscreen  washer bottle was mounted inside under the ashtray  .

30+ years of wiring being fiddled with throws up loads of "what were they thinking" moments.
This what was was "suplus" from my hatchback.

Hi TBM,

Who knows with a 40 y.o. car!..maybe the pink factory resistance wire in the coil circuit had an issue at some time..and this was someones way of trying to fix it??

p.s. thought the resistance wire was in the coil circuit, not the tacho circuit........but ?

p..s from where I have seen you drive the car (from pics) assume it goes just fine....and if the tacho also works fine...I'd be tempted to just leave it mate......unless you are looking for a challenge..lol

It's not on Russet Col , I am going to remove them , could be left overs from an old twin point or capacitor discharge system , who knows . Thanks for all the suggestions , the new motor goes in , in a couple of weeks I'm thinking there should be no problems .
