i took the steering wheel of my lx a while back to redo the dash and interior, and when it came to putting it back on, the inner steering shaft was bout 6cm too short, so i cant bolt the steering back on.......so now i removed the whole column and it looks to be fine, not colapsed as i 1st thought.......any ideas? anyone has a spare steering column lying around?

any help would be great as i need to do this asap as its hard to re register a car with no column....

cheers

You have broken the 2 pins holding the inner shaft to the outer one on the collapsable shaft..If you gentlely grab the top part with some multis...then tap under your hand up towards tour face it will slide back up... My LC has the same problem..and my old steering column did the same...no dramas.

Time for a new shaft - these are not meant to be repaired, (not if they are to remain collapsible)
