Get the heads tidied up and go for a solid cam with about 240-245 duration at 50 thou and about 550 lift and with the manifold and carby you have, you should go close to your desired output.

Good to see an Aussie engine in an Aussie car, so many Aussie cars have American or Jap heart and souls in them.

Maybe talk to KRE engines.

They seem to be doing pretty well with the Holden V8 in 888 racings cars

Speak to Frank at Dandy Engines, he's a good guy and can easily make the power you want in a streetable combo.

Your not having much luck with the aussie 8. I would of slotted a small block in it the first time it went. Anyway good luck with the new combo and definitely put a nice solid stick in there, a solid roller in the mid 250's should get what your chasing easily

Well, you asked for advice and have got it. Your decision to make now. Gerry has built a fair few stout Holden combos so his advice is prolly worth listening to FWIW.

If your budget will stretch to a Hydr Roller then go for it! If the combo ends up right it'll love it, and so will you, once you have driven a hottie engine with a roller in it you will never go back.

If your going to take the advice of your engine builder so be it. No point constantly asking for opinions your not going to listen to.
There were quite a few people that said you would have more issues from the bolt going through the engine. Your comment was no, there will be no damage. Seems there is more than you had let on.

Sorry to sound negative, but in my opinion, and only my opinion, you don't take the advise and comments that your given. So why keep asking?

Rant out

the whole point of the thread is to get some opinions on different options , in regards to the bolt i found in the engine there was no visable bore damage so we thought it was fine but obviously not , im free to ask as many questions as i like on this forum ,

You will get many opinions with engine combos and set ups. Any good engine builder has their own preference too. In recent years I have had large hydraulic cams, then went on to flat tappet solids and now have a solid roller in my new acquisition. But my experience in engine builds it mainly with 308's. For what you want and a cheaper option and less work build wise than a hydraulic roller, I would go with the solid flat tappet at about 245 duration 550 though lift. (similar to a Crane CC280/F280) I have used this size cam with good results in a 355 that ran high 11's consistently in an LX. Still very driveable and great power-band. Your heads will have to be up to spec though to make the most of the cam.  Spring choice in particular. I am by no means and engine building expert, but have experienced quite a few different set ups of late so am happy to post my experiences to guide you. But up to you again..

Cheers, Gerry

So be it.

I won't turn this into a shitfight.

Good luck, seems you need all you can get! (don't mean that condescendingly)

Ryan the 280 and 288 Crane cams are 2 of the best you can buy for the VN headed 355 Holden they work really well

To get more out of it will need to step it up with way more compression obviously, single plane like a harrop(come single maybe?) & solid cam like a 288.

Get the cam, heads & manifold ported properly by tk or hpe..someone that you trust & know their sh*t.Add that to suitable driveline you'll have a mile long smile.
