Hey guys,

Just want to get some feedback from those in the know.

I have a LJ 2door project just starting. Original colour is Royal Purple with Flax interior. My intention is to do it as an XU1 replica in the original colour. Did XU1's have Flax interior?

The other option is to replicate my Dad's old GTR, but it was Dublin Green. I love the colour but not sure if I should go away from the original colour purple.

My head says Royal purple, my heart says Dublin Green.

What do you guys reckon? What would you do?

I would do whatever I liked, you should do the same.

A non original colour on an S model will not affect its future value if that's what you are worried about.

I guess that's what I am concerned about. I don't know why because its something I intend on keeping for myself, not to re-sell in an attempt to make a profit.

I always liked Yellow Dolly,I can't tell you why lol,so with me there was no question, but as mentioned above your car paint it the colour you like and bugger everyone else who don't like it

If not building an original car, which going by your other thread your not, you may as well go with what ever you want.
It's a custom car your building, paint is part of a custom build

As others have said, do what you want. If it is Royal Purple originally that is what i'd go with in a replica. I've always liked LJ XU1's in Silver as well.

Go the royal Purple with Flax trim
A - its not a common combo
B - it will look better than Dublin any day
C- cool trim colour

Thanks for your advice guys. The wife has put her foot down and said it's going to be purple!

I still want to run with the XU1 theme but not sure if the Flax interior would look out of place.

Never seen a dark coloured XU1 with light trim.

Royal Purple with Flax trim was a GTR combination but not available with XU1.

Yeah who the frOck cares, It would look bloody awesome.

XU-1 Replicas are so frOcking over rated, I walk past 99% of them at car shows, same as real XU-1's, seen one seen em all.

Plus, are you going to go to the point of getting proper matching date stamped steering colom washers and the like to make it a proper replica, or spice it up with SU's/webbers/injection proper hot engine etc?

What im trying to say is how "replica" do you want it/intend to do it? Proper replica will cost a fortune by the time you buy correct carbs and the like, which would be better off on a restored car anyway, or do an XU-1 "tribute" your style?

Go the purple and flax.

Must admit I prefer to walk past all the shiney one's and look at the survivors with a bit of patina here and there...

Can you slap it back together as is and just put a hot motor in it ? $12k of paint and panel will build a hell of a good driveline ;)

I'm not a "Rivet Counter" as such, so when I say replica I just want something that looks like an XU1 externally with similar running gear. I don't intend on fooling anyone into thinking it would be genuine, just built for my enjoyment.

I just find the appearance of the XU1 more appealing with the rear bobtail, fluted guards, painted blackouts and a set of Sprintmasters.

Skapinad - Arrr, that's a negative. The car is stripped to bare metal already.

I have seen pics of the car before it was stripped down and the paint was pretty sad. It really needed a full birthday anyway.
