6 inch wide is 150 so cant see why not.
Used to run 185 on the standard rims. Forget whether they were 5 or 5 1/2 inch.
Did go 195 and 205 but they looked a bit stupid

I run the 165/80's on the front of mine, but they're 4" rims. They do have a lot of bulge though. So on a 6" rim they'd be pulled fairly tight. But I reckon they'd fit.
Ask your local tyre shop to confirm.

ls1 with the rims i have u need a custom offset to fit in the gaurds , as u are well aware its a trial and error , springs heights , stub axles , brakes all play a big factor with what does and doesnt fit ,

You'll get them on if the person at the tyre shop knows what they are doing (an air blaster for the bead may be necessary if they don't know what they're doing), just need to decide if you like the look.
I've got 185's on 7.75" wide wheels on my Datto lol

165 should be OK.
This is the wheel/rim width calculator that I use http://www.carbibles..._bible_pg4.html
There are a number of calculators on the page to help out with all your rim/tyre questions, including an 'ideal rim width calculator'. The calculator says 4.5 - 6 inches for a 165 wide tyre, so you are right at max for that tyre. For the 145 it recommends a max of 5.5.
It also includes calculators for overall diameter etc that are easy to use, takes a lot of the 'trial and error' out of the equation. Hope this helps.
Cheers

The answer to your question is legally no. A 165/80 can only be placed on 4 - 5.5 inch rims. A 60/65 series can though. Whether you chose to do it is up to you...

Obviously not sitting on the ground yet but fills the gaurds nicely
