I have most of the early Holden and Torana fuel sender part numbers but that is one I have not come across before.

281xxxx would have to be from early 70's up to end of HQ magnetic type fuel gauge era.

Can you put up a pic of the unit in question?

I was expecting it may have been some rare HQ ute & van magnetic sender unit to suit with 308 and A/C.

The HQ ute & van magnetic sender unit is the only HQ unit to have a 281xxxx part number.

Did some checking today and 2814857 is indeed the part # for the HQ sed, wagon & coupe 1st type magnetic fuel tank sender unit.

Fuel sender unit Part # 9929079 is the 2nd type magnetic unit that superseded 2814857 in early 1973.
