If you give something a name,
it does what it's told.
TO FLY

The common thought is that Torana means "to fly" or "flight" but there does not seem to be any specific form of lingo from any Clan/s from around the area where the things were made to back this up from the records of Aboriginal language/s ?
One site will say it means "to fly" but does not give a State or from what Clan coined it so it seems it is not legit ?
The lingo changed from clan to Clan with derivatives of (from) how things/places/names/events etc. were described.
There are many (100's) of different dialects of the lingo and they changed just as much as the lingo we use today.
The closest thing that i can find that means some sort of thing related to flight is "Urana" (NSW , "Noise of flying quail") .
It could well be that another Clan used another word for a similar event but changed the spelling and meaning to suit and "Torana" was the result ?
The other one is "Ulinga" (to fly) but it is a euphonious word and has no Clan or State mentioned.
Dunno.

Torana to me means freedom, i look back on my younger days and i felt freedom when i was cruising in my Torana. Just the sound of the engine and i could drive around as much as i like because fuel was cheap, as well as everything else, life was a lot easier, crap i sound like my Dad, HA HA

Tony Farrell was a race car driver designer in the 1970's, He designed, built and raced the Farrell clubman race cars, among others. He raced at Bathurst for a long time.
Davies was the brains behind the Davies Craig thermo electric fad that we all seem to use, plus other things, the EWP for example
So they had some cred in the automotive industry.

Tarana a suburb of NSW sounds similar but means a large waterhole.

Tiranna - running water

Tariana - the sea

Aboriginal languages have been passed on orally, rather than written down, so pronunciation and spelling may vary.
