Does anyone have any info on employing 'Limit Straps' to control the Full Droop point in the rear end?

I know some cars like MGB's come with them standard. I'm looking for examples that someone has seen on a live axle car? Not sure the best places to put them on the Torana rear end.

One option is to find shocks with the travel you require.

Depending what shocks you use they can be shortened.

The easy way is to use a dimension chart like this one http://www.kyb.com/k...ros/dimensions/ to choose a shock with the desired extended length and mounts. But if you wanted to keep your existing shocks I guess the most compact solution would be to get some limiting cables made. Any lifting equipment place would be able to make them from 6 or 8mm rope with thimble eyes at whatever centre distance you want.

Very common in off road racing. Google is your friend. You can buy nearly any length you want off the shelf.  If the shock is holding the suspension captive it stops the shock 'topping out'*.

If you need them or simply the correct length shock is another question...

*That was the term used when it was first described top me years ago.  Most people look at me blankly if I use the expression though, but I am sure you get my drift.

I absolutely get your drift ned. I was going through the Simpson desert last year in an 80 Series LandCruiser that had 3" suspension lift and only "2 inch lift" shocks, we were 'topping out' the shocks repeatedly and the over-extension was quite an issue... broke one shock, then the other. Really fun.

If I run Torana mounts, or convert to HQ rear shocks with the mount a bit higher (is that even necessary) how much can I really control the drop-out?

I want to run pipes under the diff and don't want them to hang down much. The car ain't going to be off-roading so it's really just about putting it on a hoist etc. I think

I think you're possibly over-thinking things a bit. With the right length shock (whichever length/mount you decide on) its not an issue with lifting the car and you have plenty of room for exhaust (it only needs a mm or two clearance at full droop, build the exhaust with it in that position).

Unless you're doing some Dukes of Hazzard stuff you won't have any issues with the shock and there's really not a lot of spare room under there for extra moving parts.

So I'll forget the straps, I'll certainly have adequate shock availability to hold the diff as high as I want to?

Moving the bracket up and using HQ length gives you a couple more options but should be fine either way

Have a look at the King spring catalogue. From memory it gives shocker lengths to spring height......................or maybe it was Monroe?

im sure he could do other shocks if they come apart
