
Koni shocks with lowered King springs

Now I've heard a few people have had problems with springs falling out when fitting the koni shocks with lowered springs. Will 30mm lowered be alright or should I be looking for a different shock? Just wanna make sure before I fork out the $$$$.
And a little off topic but I've seen there has been quite a bit of discussion in the past about adjustable trailing arms. I've been looking into these for a while now and havnt been impressed mainly by the look of the McDonald bros and whiteline arms. Personally I don't think the whiteline ones look strong enough either. I've just ordered a set from the states built for our toranas. Cost $780 Australian dollars inc freight, for adjustable upper and lower arms, so there on par with our local ones but the presentation and build quality looks great. Google (pmt torana adjustable trailing arms). To check them out. I'll do a review on them after I recieve and fit them up

Mine's got Koni's and lowered Lovels in the rear, but that was a million years ago I bought all of that.
BUT, I do remember being able to buy the Koni's shorter than standard length at the time, for that exact reason, and I'm kind of sure that's what I got supplied buy the place I got it all from.
May need to ask, as all of my stuff was about 25 years ago.

I've spoken with the guys at Fulcrum in Brisbane a few times and they were very helpful. My rear's have had the valving rates changed to help stop axle tramp, they did this work and seemed like they knew what was what, well it all worked when it came back.
Its from a while ago, but the number I have is 07 38929000.

They aren't fitted as yet, but were suggested as an appropriate length shock for lowered LX's.
I think the crush tube just needs to be removed from the shock mount to 'drop straight in'.
Maybe do a forum search with a few of those key words and read up if suitable for your application?

I have koni pt# 80-2233 (suit commodore wagon, VL etc) for the rear of my LX.
They aren't fitted as yet, but were suggested as an appropriate length shock for lowered LX's.

I've checked these ones out and they are to suit 50-60mm lowered rear so probably not suitable for my 30mm drop. I might give fulcrum a call. How much did they set you back with the valving done mick?

Its a bit hard to remember, was maybe 8 years ago, but I kind of remember somewhere around $120, but the rears had to be looked at anyways, as one had started to weep with signs of dust sticking to the outside, so the valving rates were done at the same time.
The car used to either blow the tyres off or if it tried to get traction it would axle tramp something crazy. The broken crap I've replaced over the years from axle tramp is plenty long enough for a afternoon of reminiscing in the shed.
The redone shocks are FIRM!!! maybe beyond what some would call acceptable, but I find them ok as I like a firm ride, their minimum setting is probably firmer than the max setting available on a standard shock, but they stopped the tramping all together.

Sounds like you've got yourself quite a weapon. Thanks for your help mate. Gonna order the 802299 shocks and see what there like, I can always send them away to be shortened and revalved if need be. Cheers

They are a monotube shock, have a larger piston to help control damping better, more sensitive, requires less effort.
Koni are twin tube, smaller piston, they have a harder time to control movement, its almost impossible to find a true happy medium between high shaft speed and low shaft speed damping

May be check the length of HT & HQ shocks, I think the HT shocks are 35mm shorter & the HQ shocks are 25mm shorter then LX shocks,
a shock retailer should be able to check fitment.

Excuse my ignorance, but does a shock absorber care what range of its stroke you are using (both position and length of stroke)?
Short of repeatedly trying to over-extend or over-compress it...

We have found the konis to low springs drop out, but place here in melb 80 dollars to shorten them! Problem solved
for me it was having to remove the tail pipes every time it went on the hoist as they go under the diff!
