Bunnings sell them outright
A bit expensive to start with but no rental and reasonable refill/exchange price

It's not an outright buy scheme. The bottles are D size and you pay a deposit of $200.00 per bottle + the cost of the gas in the bottle but you never own the bottles.
When the bottle/s is/are empty or you are finished with it/them (note: the bottle/s may still contain a quantity of gas - sorry no refund on unused gas) you take it/them back and they refund your deposit/s. If you wish to get fresh bottles you again pay the deposit/s + pay for the gas. The advantage is you can have the bottles for years and they will cost no more than $200 per bottle.

If you're only looking to heat stuff, just get yourself a handheld LPG torch and use the bottle off the barbie.
Pretty sure you can even get cutting attachments for LPG, you just have to connect compressed air to do the actual cutting?

Wish my local bunnings had that deal, its an absolute bargain!!!
Bigfella, usualy oxy/lpg systems still use a compressed oxygen system, not sure how a compressor would go but it would probably work, albeit being a bit ugly of a cut due to the impurity's in the air.

Yep, better bargain than those overpriced disposable map and oxy gas bottle set ups.

I rent a G size bottle of oxygen ($222 / year) and use the LPG regulator and tips. It works well for small jobs and there is less soot when brazing. Smaller gouging tips seem to work ok too. When you get into big stuff, like cutting anything more than 20mm, or when using the 2 inch (diameter) heating tip, I think the LPG regulator is a bit beyond its limits.
E2 size Argon is $202 / year over here through BOC.

Do you already own regulators and a handle with tips? It would take a fair bit of work to pay off the LPG gear if you are switching over from oxy / acetylene.

Any one used this to put some heat into the metal before. Would it work. ??
It depends on what you are doing with it. Those propane and MAP setups are OK for brazing thin copper pipe. They would definitely get a 50 cent sized piece of panel to cherry red. But you might be battling with thicker parts like spot welds. I don't know much about panel beating so my knowledge is at its limits here.
