i had a quick look around and couldnt find the answer so ill ask the group, is there anyone making headers or extractors to suit a 350 chev into lx torana or do i have to find someone local to build them for me. i have had a look on a couple of websites, but years ago the companies that where making them had issues with fitment, is this still the case or have they got there act together and this is no longer a problem. any help would be appreciated. thankyou

Hi Mark, I have been down this path and still are in a way as I built my own but still have cones and collectors to weld in place and then coating to be done.
Mines a vortec headed 350 I went 15/8 4 into 1 . As you know there is clearance problems on the drivers side . I won't go into it but try and answer your question, a good friend of mine has same set up and it came with Castlemaine 13/4 try y's.They are extremely tight fit and have been massaged here and there to make them fit, there is very minamal clearance anywhere but they do fit somehow and I am sure it would be a pain in the ass.but doable with patience . As I said they are 1 3/4 primaries if they made 1 5/8 I believe they would be a good thing with a little extra room. Oh you need Castlemaine mounts they look like everyone else's nothing special there. I guess you would have seen Hurricaine do a set . I can't say anything about them haven't seen a set. Now if I was to do it again it comes to how much you are willing to spend. Cheapest way castle or maybe hurrricaines, lots of swearing I recon. Or have a good look around and find a good exhaust guy who can do it. If you can spend around $2500 for custom you are happy with I recon you've won. It's a bit of coin but let's say $100 an hr. not bad if you get what you want. Cheers Shane

thanks for your input Shane, i think because we are in need of 1 7/8 primaries ( from memory, will have to check with the engine builder ) i might have to go down the custom made path.i havent been on this forum for a while, other important stuff to get done, and going on memory the manufactuers that do make the headers or extractors, people where having no end of issues with fitment. I guess i was hoping that someone had already got on top of this issue and was making them in the hundreds.  i know dream on.    ill have to find someone in SA that does custom work.

When people mention Castlemaine pipes, keep in mind there are 2 companies out that way. CRS (Castlemaine Rod Shop), and CAE (Castle Auto & Electrical). Both used to sell pipes. I assume they still do.

I've been out of the game here for quite a while, but check their respective websites.

I've had success with CAE Tri-Y's, and have heard of others with fairly good feedback too. On the other hand, others have had to modify them (from both companies). CAE did update their offerings a while ago to offer bigger primaries too (from memory 1-3/4). I remember thinking at the time they were probably the best offering available.

Hurricane used to be another option. I think Pacemaker ceased their offering.

For really serious/hardcore pipes I would think custom made will be the go. But don't write-off some of the smaller off the shelf pipes - for mild combos (say under 450HP), they can still net good results.

There are several threads around if you can find them. Have fun!
