Some say Adelaide cars have them like the top pic and Brisbane cars like the bottom pic.
Mine is Brissy and installed like in the bottom pic.
I wonder which way Sydney, Melbourne and Perth VAP's installed them?

Had a look at my Perth 1969, but Lace is missing Dammit

My 2 main cars have one each way (will have to check the other 2 now!)
I personally believe the lower pic is the better option as the bonnet pushes down & back on the rubber & tend to frOck it when its fitted as per the top pic.
No idea which is factory tho! just my observations

Top pic in my opinion, lip is designed to stop fluids spraying your windscreen if you blow a hose so lip faces forward.
I think!

Gravity will put debris into gap if facing up,
so gap at bottom for me.
^^^ Marty hit the nail on the head,
you always hear that about bonnet holes

Have a gander at any HQ-WB Holden. The bonnet strip (which is basically the same extrusion) faces the same way as the bottom pic.
I think the prime directive in the case of the LC & LJ Torana, if originality is an issue, is where the car was assembled .
If Brisbane then install weatherstrip per bottom pic.
If Adelaide then install weatherstrip per top pic.

Now when you say that,
a correct bonnet connection will seal in any direction,
but as we know, bonnet hinges are not the best, dammit.

Top pic as air pressure pushes the lacing up against the bonnet to form a better a seal. I have been told by some the other way around but my original one seemed to fit much better no kinks as per top pic.
The weatherstrip on mine is squashed so flat by the bonnet that nothing is going to get past it regardless of which way around it is fitted.

Just been looking at engine bay pics of EJ, EH, HD, HR,HK, HT, HG, HQ, HJ, HX, HZ, WB.
They all have the weatherstrip installed like this.
From memory the FE, FC, FB, EK has it installed the same way too.
