Has anyone else wondered why the price of a 4 or 5lt bottle of oil you put in your car is roughly the same cost ,and it hasnt doubled or trippled in price ??
They say the price of petrol goes up because the oil price goes up ??
So why not the oil you buy ??? Just a thought

I actually bought a 5 litre bottle of Penrite HPR35 the other day and think it was about $10 cheaper than the one I purchased about 12-18 months ago!! But I got ripped off on that one ...

more to the point, lets take shell for example, fuel goes up and down like a yoyo all week supposably due to the cost of a barrel of oil but the bottles of oil in the shop stay the same price for months.
when is the govt going to get their hand out of the refineries pockets and start working for the peoples.

Interesting point. My Valvoline 1 Litre Top ups for the crap Laser have been $6.00 for the last 3 years. I'd never considered that. Good point. Might be worth mentioning to the ACCC, something they have not seemed to have picked up on.

maybe just the fact that we have been paying ripoff prices for oil for years allows them to absorb the increase, or are we allowed to use our own oil for standard motor oils instead of buying back from america???

being one of the larger oil producing countries in the world, why do we export oil and then pay more to import the shit? there playing us.

We are a loooooong way from being one of the largest oil producers in the world. Consider that the Asia/Pacific region has 3% of the worlds oil, and Saudi Arabia alone has 21%. Gives some perspective on why the yanks are always meddling in the affairs of the M.East.

Not oil is suitable for use as lubricants so we export what we dont need and import the grades we do need for lubriacnats, plastic manufacture or whatever.

internet porn is made by egotistical US college students, they pay for petrol to drive around in their vans and pick up whores. the leading oil producers of the world are sick of their women being tricked into sexual acts before being kicked out of the van and being laughed at when no money is paid. so naturally the saudi's with their family being sent to the US to "study" are outraged when their virgin daughter is caught on movie at bookbangbus.com. so as a final stand they raise oil prices.

PEtrol costs more, and requires more refining (and produces more non-useable waste) than the oil for the engine/trans?

I really cbf looking up the proper process for petrol refining but that's what I thought.

I love that sound and logical reasoning ... I never thought of it like that!

Makes you realise how overpriced the oils are?
$20 for 5L, the relatively small changes at the petrol pump are only going to change it on a per litre cost, so if petrol goes up 20c/L expect the same for oil, but with such a high profit margin built in already, they dont need to run around the stores changing all the prices on the stock every time there is a change at the pump. Depending on what they do to the engine oil, its isnt much harder to procure heavier molecular weight fractions from the crude than the lighter weight fractions such as petrol....just economics of scale.

I used to pay about $14 for 5 litres of GTX2 in the early nineties, it just cost me $26 for the same the other day which is about an 85% increase.

Just another 2 cents worth. inc gst.
