Hi All...
Just after a bit of help ??
I asked in the price check section about some (V8 running gear) I was thinking of buying.I stated that the motor hasnt run in about 4-5 yrs as the owner crashed his car and lost interest. It is a mild 308 with some good gear in it and I am told it will put a smile on my dial once going.Another Member pointed out it may need a hone , is this possibly the Worst case scenario or could there be worse to look forward to.
It hasnt been turned over as far as I know for A long time. Before buying I have asked the owner to at least start the motor to make sure it runs ??? A good idea or would it be better to pull it down and start from scratch.I was planning on changing all the gaskets anyway .
Any Advice would be Greatly appreciated , as I dont want to spend the folding Stuff on something that will cause more Headaches.
Thanks

if you really want to know then a total strip down including valves from heads is the only way of inspection to be sure. a gasket set and some measurements is good insurance.
otherwise if its just a cheap stocked and its been sheltered good, rip off the rocker covers and pull out the plugs and give it a good oiling first and turn it over by hand oiling the bores as you go.
if you need great force for this you know you have problems.
