And this is a surprise to who? thats right NO ONE .....LOL

OMG all the dramatic increase in fine revenue and cameras hasn't made an impact on road fatalities. WTF (sarcasm)
Who new??
Preferred Solution:
We need to double the camera numbers and double the fine penalties to fix this.
The solution to all problems in Australia is simple just get more money from tax payers (one way or another) who cares about fixing the hidden real cause.

Its human nature. If your out driving and see marked cars driving around you naturally pay more attention to how you are driving. With hidden cameras most times you are not even aware you have gone past one let alone that you have been done for a few klms above the posted limit. Up until December I had not lost one demerit point for over 10yrs yet a camera got me for 5kph over in a 90kph zone. I guess it was a lesson that I shouldn't be such a death threat to other road users and should slow down.

I know what you mean. I got pinged early last year for the 1st time in over 20 years by a speed camera for doing 67 in a 60 zone. Wish I'd been doing 72 would have made it at least feel worthwhile.
I was lucky there were no pedestrians walking down the middle of the road or I would have killed them. I hold my head in total and utter shame for being so reckless.

It's the QPS Union who made this comment - not QPS itself therefore has little significance and even less horsepower, and I note it's tied to an agenda about additional police resources (predictably) as opposed to anything else like road safety initiatives - unfortunate really - could have used empirical data to support an approach with a greater good motivation behind it and attempt to wrest some control back from elements of academia whom seemingly have that government's ear...

We need more red light cameras in my opinion to stop all the dickhead redlight runners. See it every day on the way to work. This would be beneficial for road safety!

Let's not single out Queensland. Here in pricktoria it is just as bad. Maybe worse because the speed limits in most urban areas are inappropriate. I have 7 demerit points(4 from speeding) and have been trying very hard not to "speed". Pretty much impossible to stay under 100% of the time. The level and duration of concentration required is actually dangerous.

I recently got caught in my Torana by a camera mounted on the front of a stationary car. The recorded speed was 61 in a 50 zone. Looked at the photo and noticed the road was on a down hill section
I thought the world was suppose to be "playing on a level playing field". Well speed cameras don't.
By the way....it cost me $431. The SA government needs as much money as it can get.

There is no doubt in my opinion this is run by business persons. Decisions made and justified by themselves. Even the rego stickers. Big business, how to make as much money with as little repercussions. The increases for non payment. They should also advise child support. So if I feel the need for speed, I will pick my moment and take my chance. Normally haven driven down the road and on my way back. If I get stung, I was doing the wrong thing so pay the fine. If you don't do the wrong thing then you don't get fined. Truth is there is a greater risk to others and pay the fine or just follow the road rules. But it would be nice if each state had an unused road for people wanting to take a risk with there own lives.

Point to point cameras would be a better way of slowing down traffic and keeping speeders at bay. We all know where they hide the speed cameras here in ACT and they only act as a deterrent up until you pass them and then everyone continues on speeding. Point to point cameras actually make people think about their speed for a longer period of time.

Don't worry folks - before too long they will phase out speed cameras altogether. They will be replaced with "dataloggers" - mandatory for all new cars sold and required to be fitted to all old cars within a couple of years. These handy gadgets will record everything you do and match it to your location. Every six months you will be required to report to a testing station where you will be booked for every infringement. But don't worry - after all, if you never do anything wrong you'll be fine!

Probably not far from the truth.

I can see that being hacked with a virus of some sort so that the data checker can't get in to check it

That would be treated the same way as refusing a breath test - instant fail and maximum penalty. After all, if you have nothing to hide, you won't mind them checking!
Oh, and if your traction control gets activated that will count as a "burnout" because you broke traction...

I don't think rules like this will be out in our lifetime. There will have to be discretion with rules like this anyway. Just because you broke traction does not mean you're driving like a hoon, you could be trying to avoid an accident.

In relation to the above post, speed cameras won't use discretion and take into account your good driving history either.
If you have 10+ years without a driving infringement write to your road authority and explain it was a slip up and they will retract the infringement; they do have a good behaviour policy and many people don't know of this. I'm not sure if it works if your infringement is excessive but I did contact them in the old days when you had to write and lick a stamp and my $160 fine was dismissed. It was back in the days just before hidden speed cameras were outlawed and one happened to get me.
Of course they note it down so it'll be another 10 years before you can claim leniency.
I agree, it's unfair when there is no personal involvement, cops would've did all the warrant checks, inspect the car, etc. and just let me go for doing a few clicks over.

The oldest myth in the book; a member here on the forum was a cop and straightened that one out; uphill, downhill, level road; speeding is still speeding. Whenever someone would pull that line on him, he'd say, if your car can't slow down going down hill I can issue you with a defect notice as well if you want. lol

Im not going to say I never speed.
That would be stupid.
However I can manage to keep my car at the speed limit quite well without having to constantly watch my speedo.
And it doesnt matter what vehicle I drive I can still do it.
Its pretty subconscious and works best with the regular vehicle.
Your senses actually come into play.
The speed at which the road goes by.
The sound the car makes at a particular speed.
The vibrations at a particular speed.
The way I look at it if I get fined wear it. They caught me that time.
There were times that I got away with it. Lots of them. Including where highway patrol has seen me.
There are times that had I been caught I would have been walking for a long time.
I agree that speed cameras dont save lives.
Most of what is done for road safety is next to useless.
But they are usually something that a politician can stand up and say we did something.
The ideas are often as useless as the politician as well.

Yep and my Nokia has a setting which you dial in how many km's over the speed limit before it warns you with a few beeps, it automatically adjusts the speed limit via GPS. I assume the other phones would have such a feature. Yes I only buy Nokia for the free maps, lol.
I agree that speed cameras don't save lives.
Admittedly I know I would drive faster if there were no cameras. Back in the old days in the middle of night when nobody was around, sneaking red lights was a common practice; I know for sure I don't do that these days. Whether that has saved lives is like the gun debate, the control ships all the good guys into line while the bad guys break the law regardless.

Stephen there was a rumour going around that the first VE SS would have the antenna tap the rear window around 240kmh.
I checked it out regularly. On a private raod of course. lol

I've got bad news for you: the laws are loosely written and the cops decided "ANY break of traction is a burnout".
A while ago someone posted on here about a guy who had his car impounded for three months because he had a LSD and his tyre squeaked while going around a roundabout.
