i have fitted 265's on the rear on 10in rims ,14's from memory but that was a looong time ago

we even got 275 x 15s under an unflared rear, but we pumped the guards out a touch

looked pretty tough :spoton:

i have had a 245 on 17x8's under the back of mine (front too) and I could see it taking a 265 under the rear easy enough, even 275's

Tonight I fitted a 17x9 inch rim with +5mm offset with a 265/40 tyre on the back of my flareless hatch. It would only just rub on the outside with my rolled guards, and the rear corner of the tyre on the inside of the wheel well, will have some pics in a couple of days. With 255 tyres, and slight mods to the inside of the rear wheel well, they'd fit comfortably.

The 265's look awesome on the flareless rear!!

I am pretty sure they were +20, and i think my diff is standard length. I reckon that I could have gone 1 inch wider on the rim like you did 355LX. I reckon going 1 inch taller in the rear would look heaps better as well.
by the way, did you get my PM the other day 355LX?

have a look at the link in my sig for the big wheels, its the second set of 17's that fitted the best, the offset on the billets was wrong

How did you guys do this!!

I just purchased a set of dragway indy's in the torana stud pattern. they are 15"x8" with a 235/60 tyre and the fronts are 15"x7" with a 205/60 tyre.

I have a flareless LX sedan with a standard drum to drum bango rear.

The fronts are fine but the rears stick out to far even if I get a narrower and lower profile tyre!! what can I do to get them to fit?? This is the set I got;

Any ideas would be great! Thanks

Depends if you want to do some mods. Flatten the guard lip, cut away lip in the the inner tub near the chassis rail and on a 15x8 rim I think you can see 265, 255 comfortably - oh, thats with shortening the diff, perhaps 3" (?) each side. MRNOS had from memory 285's under his unflared sedan but he moved the shock mounting points.

When I can afford it I will be doing the above to fit minimum 265 under, wouldn't mind 275, but I'd be satisfied with 265.

Cheers,

P.s, I'll give you a call this week to arrange a time to come up and have a look at those 235's.

Perhaps shortening the diff a little either side would make more sense to make the actual rim sit where its supposed to.

Whats a fair quote to expect for this to be done?

With the wheel on, there still is plenty of room between the tyre and the shock, they just stick out past the guard lip rather than stick in closer towards the shock. Maybe machining the rim a little might give me a little extra?

ive got 255/60/15 on a 8.5in wide rim with a 3 3/8 back spacing sitting under my unflared hatch. Has to chop the inner tubs and shorten the diff by 5.5in in total. I should be able to squeeze a 275/50/15 under there.

would i be able to fit a 275/40-17 tyre on a 17x9.5" rim on the rear of a UC Torana?

what offset would i need?

how much would i need to shorten the diff?

wouldn't extending the diff and having a larger offset achieve the same thing? Only thing is then you have no dish.

if your in sydney mortin and may at eltoro estate liverpool will change the offset on your rim for around $140 pending inspection and welding success.

neale's wheels will change to new rim for around $200.

both prices are each.

Unfortunately i'm nowhere near there.

No-ones answered my question about an idea how much shortening axles to bring the wheels closer inwards will cost? (if thats the way to go) I dont know if I can machine the wheels entirely to achieve what i want (just for them to fit in nicely!)

cheers

try yellow pages for wheel repairers in your area.

shortening axle will cost about $150 per axle and about $300-$400 for the diff.
you cant go too far as you will fowl brackets suspension etc.
