Hi peoples,
I was wondering if anyone else has trouble with fuel coming out of the fuel cap when driving. Has anyone else had this problem? Has anyone found a way to stop it ? I don't want to replace the cap as it is one of those overpriced locking ones.

-Cheers Fat Tony.

Fat Tony,

My locking cap does the same...it's that brilliant Holden design that allows the fuel past the gasket and onto the bumper bar...remedy....dont fill it up and you won't have a problem. I have heard many a complaint about them so your not alone.LOL...

I used to have people tell me my fuel cap was leaking too! I replaced the cork gasket and that helped a little... (had to cut my own gasket though - easy)

Haven`t heard of one of these over priced caps that don`t leak,a few guys up this way with them only put them on at shows because of the mess they make.Thats why I`ve never wasted the coin on something that just lets expensive fuel run over my paint.

If its a common thing for these type of caps I might find a standard type one and see how I go thanks everyone.

I had the same problem with one of those $5 fuel caps from autobarn. The fuel seemed to run straight through the lock and down the back of the car, the paint behind the filler was already hammered when i got the car. Putting a non locking standard fuel cap on seemed to reduce the problem quite a lot....

now i am on straight gas i don't have this problem at all. :tease: :spoton:

Perhaps you could fit a flap into the filler like the newer cars have so that the fuel doesn't get the chance to blow back up the pipe?

Theres a few good condition standard caps on ebay at the moment Tony!
73LJ a mate had the exact problem with his fuel cap and was unaware as to how bad it was till he was up it going up a hill and it was a straight stream of fuel from the key hole,he has since gone back to a standard cap.

My original screw on cap stopped leaking when I changed the cork gasket & bent the lips on the neck so it fitted tighter. When I was driving the car regularly I changed to a aftermarket lockable cap & it didn't leak at all as well.
