What are the benefits of both of these in a holden red 6. i have both the 1's and the 2's.

For those that cant remember what they look like (and i am going from memory). the 1's have just the round top with a lip around the circumfluence. the 2's have a kidney shape cut out of the top also with the circumference lip......

whats the advantage of the 2's? from memory, that design is to encourage gas flow?

would the compression ratio be different if i was to swap them over (same rods/head etc)

Id appreciate any comments on this!

Cheers

kidney shaped has higher compression... which eventually means more power :P

Id use the kidney one, though depends if the rest of it is good too, ie, porting.

According to ACL's piston cat:
1 is flat top (no bowl) (avail for all size 6's)

22 is an even bowl in the top (lip around circumference) the bowl volume varies depending on motor and application:
7.0cc bowl (186 unleaded app)
14.8cc bowl (202 unleaded app)
2.0cc bowl (202 high comp app)

224 is kidney shaped bowl (7.2cc) in top, gives better combustion and less compression than a flat top (202 app)

Hope this helps

sorry thought you were talking about heads! cause you were talking to me about heads on msn just before you showed me this post :P

same answer, just ignore the porting bit.

flat top = more comp.

cheers for that. whitelc do u have a link to that catalogue.

So it sounds like, for more power and for my selection, the bowled ones are better.

I was wrong with how I described the duralite 2's. Its more of a crescent shape.

They are the same as the ones below.

So do you guys think? Are these better (performance wise) then the duratlite 1's - dished.

Sorry holdon, I thought you were only talking about the different shapes in the top of the piston (this is only one of the differences between Duralite I and Duralite II).
See this link to see the difference between Duralite I and Duralite II. Duralite II

One of the main things to look at to decide which piston to use is the compression ratio you want to end up with. I used the Duralite II series because it gave me the best comp ratio for the application I was building (I would have used the flat top 'race series' pistons but comp would have been a little too high for supercharger). Also the Duralite II series is supposed to be just as strong as the race series.

cheers for that.

after reading the comparison. it says that they both will have the same compression. and that the 2's have 25% better "squish", are 25g lighter and are stronger.

thanks again mate - exactly what i was after :spoton:
