Aussie muscle cars & utes are one of a kind (the guys just drool over the Aussie cars & can't believe the power plants in such a comparively small car) and I would love to chase down a Torrie over here, or plan to bring one over (SLR 5000 or A9X maybeeee)
Any ideas anyone???

Used to live over there myself as a young fella, Ottawa for 2.5 years. Loved it.
There is a rally that they organise around Montreal, including airfares and transportation of the vehicle for about $20k. Would love to do it, just don't ask me which year!! It's for road registered cars, so it would be Ole Yella for that one.
We also have a member in New York. He was going to ship a Torrie over there, but pulled out at the last minute. Doing a Datsun or something now, but he still keeps in touch. Not bad for a sheet metal worker that started over here with Qantas, now maintains the Time Warner exec helicopter.
Oh, welcome btw.
Pat.

I forgot to say that I'm in Calgary (Alberta), moved from Toowoomba QLD.
To bring a car here it has to comply with roughly the same requirements as a NSW roadworthy, and must be at least 15 yrs old if it doesn't comply to the 5star crash rating here. Not a problem for Aussies greatest machine (older than the 15 yr rule). The fact that it's righthand drive is not an issue (we did a wheel alignment on a RH drive Pajero today, freaked the guys out driving it though ), best of all there's no requirement to put an ugly sign on the rear like I've seen on one blokes Willeys in Griffith (NSW).
Cost wise by ship would be about $7 grand including taxes, would just take 8 weeks to get here though (I thought about bringing my AU Fairmont over..... sorry guys I did own a Ford, Pleeeeze forgive me)
Thanks for the welcome too.

I was born and bred in Toowoomba. Mum near shat herself when I rocked up with it and stayed the night after buying it in Brissie. She thought I had been hiding my brothers old SL/R in the shed since about 1981.
That rally sounds interesting Pat, got any more info on it ?

Good morning,
From October 19 - 28, 2006, classic car enthusiasts from Europe and North America will answer the call of Classic Rallye Canada and bring their teams to participate in a rally adventure that will take place over 2000 km of secondary routes throughout Quebec and on two of our great racetrack circuits (F1 Circuit Gilles Villeneuve and Circuit Mont Tremblant).
This regularity rally was created with a carefully selected team using, as models, the best of the European rallies on the roads and racetrack circuits. The preparations have launched with a seasoned event management and technical team. The first edition is preparing to welcome up to 100 teams from Europe and North America. A selection of all-inclusive packages are available for eligible teams. Teams from other continents are welcome to inquire on their eligibility and methods to enter.
A great selection of classic cars from North America and Europe have already been registered with teams ranging from first time adventure seekers to seasoned rally participants and even the Belgian champion. The exact routes will be unknown to competitors until shortly before the start of the rally. A confidentvknowledge of the classic you are driving is key, as is the good communication between the pilot and co-pilot.
By day a test of skill and by night an opportunity to enjoy Quebec's regional flavors, customs and ambiance.
For classic car enthusiasts, this is Classic Rallye Canada.
Contact Classic Rallye Canada to register your team and reserve your place in your next historic adventure. Registration for eligible teams ends on July 31st 2006.
We look forward to seeing your team during Classic Rallye Canada's first edition October 2006.
Please find attached the introductory information for Classic Rallye Canada in PDF format.

to answer "rorym" I was getting $27/hr at the GM dealer, sounds good until you find out that it's what they call "flat-rate", in short, if a job take an hour by the book, then that's what they pay @ $27/hr, if you hit a snag, say, trying to find the car, walking all over the yard 'cause they hid it out the side (under the snow), then get it in the shop, hoisted do the work, quote on extra work (the tech does that not the advisor, he just rings the customer), get rejected for the extra work, carry out the original job (that bit that pays the hour), roadtest, type up the job on the pc, park it, run back inside to get the next one, in total you take 2 hrs to get paid one.
(Sounds like fun don't it.....!!!!!... yeaaah... that's why I now work at a smaller private shop for $27/hr "straight time". 40 hr week here too so watch that one & usually one 8 hr Saturday a month, also it's normal for only 2 weeks annual leave for the first two years then 3 wks thereafter). Mechanics are scarce here, in fact they need builders, chippys, elec's & plumbers even more here in Calgary.
I visited the "aussiecoupes" site, they are still there, had an Aussie email me so at least he knows what a Torrie really is, thanks for that tip "CHIGS".
gotta go for now, the missus missus me.... )

Sounds like Aus!!! Work the Australian accent, that oughta be worth a few bob + aussie sense of humour. Canadians like Americans seem to laugh at just about anything!!! Still remember my Canadian teacher for praising me to my mum for giving him an Australian compliment. I called him a "drongo". He obviously didn't know what it really meant!!!!....Mechanics are scarce here, in fact they need builders, chippys, elec's & plumbers even more here in Calgary.....
Also got a big display in the library after Winter, for surviving the Canadian Big White North winter.
Are Greg & Doug MacKenzie still big over there? To give you a time scale, I was over there when they released their album, "The Great White North".
