Stock 202, pollution motor running on (pre ignition).
Was wondering if it may have something to do with the anti stall solenoid.
Is there a certain setting for these and will it effect the running of the car if removed?

Going to gas as soon as I can, so not a long term problem, a bit embarassing though!

Can anyone advise?

Cheers.

Usually the solenoid has power to it when motor running and as soon as power is removed solenoid should spring shut, so could be sticking. Can check by removing and checking operation, but have you checked for vacuum leaks or the float level could be too high drawing fuel over the main system. Could also be plug heat range or just carbon build up on a plug. How hot is the engine getting? Just a few thoughts, good luck. Jim

The solenoid is actually used as the throttle idle position stop. Disconnecting it will close the throttle near completely and stop the motor from running at the req speed. The idle speed is controlled by twisting the end of the solenoid in or out(the end has a hex head that you can put a small spanner on), so disconnecting it would give you are very low base line idle when driving, if it didnt stall 1st.
As suggested ^ to check operation, disconnect it while the motor is idling, the motor should nearly die. If it doesn't it could be stuck in the out position, though I have never seen this happen, it requires energy to be in the out position, typically they get stuck in the inactive position!
It could be that the solenoid has failed and the stop has been wound out far enough to provide enough idle, in which case that could cause a prob in running on as it wouldnt close the throttle down when the ign is turned off.
