Thanks mateGene, these measure with a ruler at what looks like 73mm but would be +/-1mm. HQ-WB is 72mm on centre of rear drums, Commodore is generally 70mm by the looks although it does seem to grow to 71.5/71.6mm on some VT onwards although it may just be a loose fit of the disc on the hub as the other end is 70mm. This of course is only up to the last of VZ.
On the back of one of these where it mounts to the hub face I can see 5/120 but it is scratched off after that from the centre of the 0 from wheel fitment. It may have said 120.65 or 120. I stuck one of my 9" axles into the holes and did up two adjacent nuts. The others were either central or just off centre of the other holes, hard to say for certain. Bloody 9" axles are 70mm spigot too so they don't centre off the hub. I've got some old 1-tonner axles upstairs, will drag one of those down and try it.
Once the tyres are off are the wheels easy to pull apart? I wouldn't mind trying to reverse the centre and see if it works. If it does I could simply buy new rim segments for the front wheels.
Will suss it out tomorrow arvo after work

If the offset and everything works out correctly with the 8mm spacers Hoppers used to recommend
Just get them tacked to the wheel flange (alloy spacer of course)... then they are technically part of the wheel.. .and no longer a spacer... so should pass any scrutiny as they stay with the wheel not the car

I tried 6mm and the caliper just grazes the bolt ends that stick maybe 3mm proud of the nut. Most are only about 1.5mm to 2mm proud and the caliper clears these.
With 9mm clears easily.
Is a few mm enough meaning 8mm spacers or should I go for 9 or 10mm?
Not sure what the bolts are, could try and get ones 2mm shorter but then the bolt ends would be flush with the nuts. I’d probably get away with 6mm spacers doing that.

Gene likes small polished rims.
Seriously
I think the 5.5” backspace is too much for the front of a HZ. That is 1.5” offset on a 7” rim. I reckon they’ll be scrubbing on the steering tie rods. The 7” PE1 rims come close, I think these are about 0.34” offset. I’d say you have either 5.5” back and 2.5” front or 6” and 2”.
What about with the spacers ?

Send two over here, might need the front bits of the rims to turn my 8’s into 6’s.

I'll be keeping the brakes, and either using some small hub-centric spacers or turfing the rims. When the whole Covid stuff settles down I'll take the wheels, axles and hubs down to Sydney and get some spacers and rings measured and made at BSA. I'll only use these wheels to change it up from time to time, will normally run Chevelle SS rims.

Gene
As already mentioned, the PCD on the Commodore and H series is different.
Not by a huge amount, but enough to snap wheel studs over time and cause an embarrassing moment.
Cheers

HQ-WB are W body Holden and Statesman. It is how GMH refer to them in their own literature.
