I'm sick of hearing the same old rhetoric mostly from non car guys that our cars are only of interest and value to the older generation and that in 10 or 20 years the following generations will have no interest and their prices will plummet. Heard it again yesterday.
Sick and tired of the same rhetoric

Mark, when i was a younger bloke, i had spent the same amount on my lx as a brand new optioned ss, a family member wasn't impressed by my continual spending, my Dad simply said, oh well he could be putting something up his arms ect ect. Everyone has an interst of some thought & all interests cost more money than you would think. Some people into lawns will spend 20 - 30 grand on equipment. Some people spend over 1 million on a house, when a basic house honestly does what's needed. You will never please everyone, NOR is it your obligation to do so ! If you have anything from legitimate monies, it's 100% your right to do what you choose, if you can afford it. If anyone doesn't share your passion or interest, they're never going to understand it. Just nod & say yep, probably mate, who knows what the future holds, as none of us do.

There is a very active modified car scene in my area.
Have some wonderful restos as well.
I was at the servo a week or so ago and spotted a Datsun 1200 ute.
Looked really nice.
Era specific mods like wheels.
Green P Plate on it, and the young bloke driving it was definitely a car nut.
So the young ones arent all into anything but old cars.
The scene will survive.
Cheers

Because I'm relatively new to this game (nearly 3 years ownership) I can nearly predict the first question from someones mouth. Like you say each to their own

I usually ask them if they have any old cars or parts and offer to buy their “junk”.

The act of people voicing shithouse opinions is not exclusive specifically to the world of modified cars, either.
I mean at some point the lion's share of old stuff does plateau in price. Example would be vintage cars; most are not appreciating significantly because the demographic has weaked with a lot of old fellas reaching the end of their days. Prices have softened, or are steady. I would think good Deusenbergs and Le Mans homologation stuff etc. won't ever be cheap because they have more universal appeal/status symbol points.
But nothing as new as a Torana will be running out of legs for a while. I'm only 30 and I know a fair few younger people who would be buying cars like Toranas if the prices were in their reach. If I was 20 years old and just started accruing some cash, I wouldn't own a what... ~$90,000 Torana hatch either, I'd own shit that I could afford.
But it's like houses... anything else in life. Are you going to wait until they drop in value to buy one? In most cases you'll die in the process.
In practice most people are going to continue to get more money and then buy one as soon as they can afford to. That is what has happened so far.

Sound like you are yet to experience the true joys of XU1 ownership - the knob jockey's that know your car better than you do.
Over the decades I have enjoyed - That is just a tarted up GTR as my mate used to own it.
- XU1's did not come in that colour.
- Wrong carbs mate 72 models had SU and 73 models had Weber

Some of these "non car guys" are just trying to engage with you I think.
They struggle to open a conversation with any techo stuff, as they know they most likely don't have the knowledge that the car's owner does.
They struggle to walk up and just say "great car mate, love it..." ( not blokey enough)
Best way to get you to talk is to say something they know you will react to. And, you will probably correct them on a few points as well, so when they walk away they should know more than they did.
That, or they are just dicks. lol
p.s. that 72/73 carby thing is so right, hear it all the time.

My young bloke showed me the latest "Unique Cars" value guide yesterday so he could boast how his 1992 Maloo was now worth over twenty grand. He was stoked. That car was built 8 years before he was born.
He knows he won't be getting the keys to the L34 for a while, but he loves the old cars as much as me.

And some of the biggest XU1 critics live within the bounds of this forum....

Yes I have been a critic.
When a seller / vendor / auction house states that a particular car has the correct A,B,C,D,E,F,G,H ect XU1 body shell /parts and this is clearly not the case then it should be made known.
I have stated this before on the forum - When the time finally comes to sell mine I won't care how much people pick it.

Some of the biggest sh*tfights I have seen on this forum in the last 14 years have come from arguments about XU1's, more so than other Torana variants including A9X's and L34's. It is one thing to make knowledgeable justified comments as per Kockum's post above, but so much of the bickering has been based on unfounded generalisations. Ultimately, it is a turn off for people who enjoy the cars.

I'm guessing that's due to a few people in particular, not being into the big torana's. Luckily it's not always an argument though.
For a minute, i wondered if i had upset someone.

From a forum member with lesser knowledge on the history of the XU1 and later Torana's, is it the case that because of the homologation of the XU1's and production touring car racing which ceased in 1972, there were lots more factory modifications done to XU1's than the latter Torana's (SLR's) so therefore the discussion/s relating to the authenticating of a genuine XU1's are more 'debatable' ?
Oh and yes that's another line I'm sick of hearing. "don't XU1's have SU carbies " .

My boss referred to my Torana as a Cortina a few times. Obviously he has no taste or interest in cars.
