Hi,
Had a call from an old mate last night.
His mate has the above, 2002 model I think, that had a timing belt tensioner fail. ( apparently). Belt slipped a bit.
They fixed that up, and lined up the dots on the crank, cams etc ,
Turned it over by hand with the plugs out to check for any bad noises etc, all good.
Cranked it over and it starts and runs as rough as, wont rev. Check engine light is on.
They have disconnected the battery to try and clear the light, no good.
Hooked up a poor man's OBD2 tool and nothing jumps out at them.
So the questions I would ask are -
1. Do these old things have cam position sensors?
2. Due to the size difference in the crank pulley and the cam pulleys, I imagine you can have it with all the dots lined up, but actually be 180 degrees out?...would it still start though?
3. Would it have a limp mode?..although from what he said, it sounds sicker than limp mode, as in it idles, but that's about all.
TIA
