I guess you could do it that way, but it's still got the boot section incorrect

it would be easier to cut the floorpan section out of the UC and stick it in a LX.
I have to do this sometime to my sedan, so I can get rid of the dodgy upper control arms its running at the moment

LH/X front doesnt bolt up to UC, everything needs to be modified to fit.

^^ The mounting points for the upper control arms (and possibly lower but I don't think so) are different. That's why you can't put a Small Salisbury (UC diff) for example, into an LX. Unless you modify the control arms or weld in a section of the UC floorpan.

^ Yep, lots of welding involved; not impossible but it's a lot of work. It has been done. I think you'd be better to cut out a UC floorpan and bolt it into an LX hatch instead of modifying everything on a UC.

BTW, does this mean that an A9X diff (10-Bolt Salisbury) will bolt strait into a UC? I've never got a strait answer about it.

an A9X boot is the same as any LH LX, a UC is different, think of where the spare mounts.....

yes a ten bolt will fit straight into a UC

Use a early commodore Salisbury, the one without the old cast mounts like on the HQ-Z, get it shortened then weld the mounts in the correct place on the diff to fit the toranas upper control arms. You dont have to do anything to the floor pan or with the control arms.

Same as black hatch [Diff Technics Sydney] bolts straight inregards

I see what you're saying, but if you do that then it eliminates the point of it 'bolting in'. Do that to any diff and it will suit a Torana, not just that particular Commodore Salisbury.

I was looking for a strong diff to bolt strait into a Torana.

Im talking front end, I never mentioned the bootlids, the doors etc that are the same.

Front end nothing bolts up.

Stud pattern is the same though :)

The chassis rails are the same aren't they? And firewall doesn't have to be modified (thankfully), just the the surrounding structual metal and panel work.

I thought you have to cut and weld a new radiator grill on. The part that the houses the headlights, indicators, radiator, bonnet locking mechanism etc and then it'll bolt up

Rails are the same, but the inner skirts need to be cut and LH/X ones welded in as the top of the guards are stepped and the front top radiator support etc is different, this was after a quick 2 minute glance over a UC a few years back.

Don't forget you'd also have to change the whole dashboard metalwork, as well as the hatch cargo floor area. Much easier to start with an LX, and only modify the upper arm mounts to suit a 10 bolt.

I just quoted the wrong person was meant to be for A9X. And I meant boot floor not boot lid.
