Project UC

She's bog stock, down to the original rubber boot mat and spare!!
The project is booked in for a start on Sunday (Father's Day), I'll be removing the original steering wheel and fitting my new Woodgrain 3 black spoke wheel and boss kit.
Monday sees her transform with window tint in 20%, same as the Hatch.
Soon to come are a set of Aunger Rebels in 14x7 ordered today...these could take anywhere from a week to 3 months!!!!
Once found, they will be restored to concourse condition with new nuts and centre caps, then fitted with 215/60/14 Nankangs all round for less than $400!!!
I had these on the hatch and I gotta say they are a great tyre.
Once that's done she'll be off to the springworks for a re-set of the springs with a drop of 2in rear and 2 1/2in front and I may throw in some gas shocks while she's apart. This drop should allow me to go standard shocks..... no need for short throw shocks, but I'm keen to hear of other's experience here!!!
Then I should have decided if I'm going straight gas or not... which will allow me to properly fit a complete new stereo including amp and sub, 4 new Jaycar 6.5in speakers powered by a JVC CD/MP3 deck... I've only got a single speaker Air Cheif AM at the moment!
So that's an insight to my plans for the UC, I will take pics whenever I get something done and I hope to bring you a 'Keithy' style build story!
Cheers!

I'm thinking about painting the outside edge of the lights in either gloss or satin black like ToranaZ has done and then tinting the face of the lights... just a little, but I reckon it should make them appear smaller!
Will get pics starting Sunday.

On the tyre subject, you'd easily fit 225/60/14's under your rears as low as nathan's, the fronts would have to be 215's or 205's as the track is wider on the front. I tried 235's on the back of mine (7" rim) and scrubbed really bad. Mine didnt sit that low either.
With regards to shocks, go the gas ones as you have mentioned. No need for short travels though, i havent got them, i dont think nathan or sarsha do either.
If your gonna go gas, i reccommend high compression (10:1 at least) otherwise it'll chew the gas and be a slug at the same time!
I'll be watching this one closely!

The springs are still in good nick, they are orig as are the shocks (not leaking), they've done 130,000 easy k's by the looks of them. So they're not shagged yet, so I figure why toss 'em? But the shocks....I'd just like gas....
I'm waiting for the wheels to come in so I can check that a 225/60/14 will fit with the offset. I don't think I'll have an issue as they are a neutral offset...3.5 in, 3.5 out.
Mate, she's a pollution choked 202...things couldn't possibly get any worse!! he he

Or get the 202 head face machined down. With hydraulic gear nothing else has to be changed, just pop the rocker cover off and re-adjust the tappets when the head goes back on. Too easy!
Either of those will boost the comp up a little.
I want to run domed pistons and a blue 173 12-Port head for my mild gas 202.

Is your 202 a 9 port block (red)?

Im using heavy duty front shokies, i dont think you can get shocks for lowered toranas. mine are fine though im going 215 on the rear but my mags have a weird offset, im sure the rebels could run 225's
get load sof pics!

The UC is in getting the windows tinted at the moment, I'll get pics later, Matty!!!
Oh, and I should have the new steering wheel on tonight too.

The windows are tinted with 20% (blocks out 80% light) and may darken a little more as they dry out over the next 48 hrs.
This is the same as I had on the hatch for those who saw it....it was nice and dark!
Especially with the blackouts.
And here's my Father's Day pressie.... my first ever woodgrain steering wheel!!
Soooo much better looking than GMH's 1979 boomerang version......Oh well, I guess that's the Aboriginal heritage!!!! he he
Now....I think I'll get the springs done next.....
