Couple of weeks ago i had the crank angle sensor replaced on my v6 lx torana as it was miss firing burping and farting
a couple of days later it started doing the same thing again later that day when i tried to start it it just didnt start so i called the mechanic and he came round to have a look
when he tried to start the car it did start but wasnt running on all cylinders so he just reved the crap out of it then all of a sudden it started blowing large amounts of blue or whitish blue smoke still only running on a few cylinders it blew smoke for about five minutes then went away but then was blowing large amounts of steam from the exhaust pipe
so they took it back to there workshop it took 2 weeks before they got back to me and when they did they told me it needed new head gaskets on an engine that i bought new and has only done 80000 km

I have worked on cars for almost 20 years and have always had the belief that if you rev a car HARD whike it is miss firing you run the risk of fuel building up in the cylinder that is not firing an could do real damage to the engine IE head gasket

Now before they reved the ringer out of it there was no coolant being used it didnt over heat and it didnt blow smoke also there was no water in the oil the only problem was it was miss firing

Am i right in thinking that they caused the damage by reving it while it was miss firing or was the miss fire caused by leaky heads

Any input on this subject would be great thanks

From what you have said, it certainly sounds like water in the cylinders if it came good with a rev. My old Rangie has a blown head gasket at the moment and won't run on 8 in the morning until it has done about 5k's and cleared all the crap from it's lungs. The V6's are known for inlet manifold leaks as well where water can get into the oil, but I'm not sure wether this lets water into the inlet ports too. Did they take the radiator out to do the C.A.Sensor? If so did they properly bleed the cooling system after? You may have been driving for the past couple of weeks with air pockets in the heads causing hot spots. Just a thought.
