Any idea what is the correct plating colour of Girling callipers for LJ XU-1?.

i didnt think they were plated.

Hi Guys.
Yes, they were plated, otherwise being cast alloy, they would have just corroded to death after 30+ years.
AFAIK the process was just simple nickel plating & it let a satin silver finish, not as bright as chrome plating.

Thanks Dr Terry I totally agree. I was thinking silver zinc finish might do the job although I seem to remember Girling components were cadmium plated in the 70`s. I appreciate your reply.

So the alloy part of a calliper is plated?
Are you sure?
I have just zinc plated everything but the front alloy housings.
Alloy mags are not plated to prevent corrosion as such, so why the callipers?

Ummm, didn't all LC and LJs have cast iron twin piston calipers??? As far as I know, no plating on them.
