The car is looking fantastic. Nice work.

By the way, why was the rad support removed when you did the bay? Did it have some damage?

Yeah Heath, the radiator support had a bit of damage and holes drilled through it - who knows what for.

The previous owner had also painted over it with butyl rubber. It was a nightmare to try to clean it up and fix it. I picked up a replacement for $100.

I got myself a set of HQ GTS wheels and painted them up like the A9X rims.

Also filled the holes from the bonnet pins

What was wrong with the Globes? Or even the Dragways for that matter? (I have a bit of a soft-spot for Dragways.)

P.S. I was wondering what it would look like with the stripe extended forward just a little bit...

Any Torana part that has had holes drilled into it is certainly no good! Haha

Yeah, cool, makes sense. Nice work.

The Dragway wheels are also my favourite. Fill the guards properly and are period.
I'd understand the move to proper alloy wheels to drop the weight down from the Dragways, but I must say the cheese cutter GTS steelies aren't really revving my engine.

The globes look good but the Holden rally wheels look heaps better. Keep an eye out at swap meets for 15x6 and 15x7 Pontiac rims. Even if they are out of shap a bit you can get them rolled, just make sure the stud holes are good. Will allow you to run affordable 15” tyres. I’m running them on my HK GTS with 205/60/15 and 215/65/15 BFG red bands. You might have to fix the front ride height though.

Technically they are Rallye II wheels in GM world. But GMH called them Rally Wheels which was the term used from mid 1968 when they first introduced the 6" HK wheel. So the term covers HK 6", HT-HG 6", HT-HG 6" slotted lightweight, HQ RallyeII 6" Canadian, HJ-mid 1978 HZ ROH made 6" RallyeII (less backspace) and the alloy 14x6 Rally wheel used for HZ GTS, HZ Sandman from mid-1978, used about 12 months later on HZ SL/E and continued into WB. Not sure what GMH called the HK Rally wheel hoop with RallyeII centre as used on L34 and A9X, they probably didn't get an option code as they were part of the Special Vehicle package. Got me interested now, I'll check what they called the 13x6" LH-LX N66 and alloy 13x5.5" N67 rims. And the alloy wheel on UC as well as it was optional elsewhere than SL/E.

That actually doesn’t look too bad Bigfella.

The stripes idea came from the HK GTS. I was thinking the stripe over the top was a bit too much.a8723e55a40543aef8598c31f1a59529.jpg

I was planning to install the iconic 308 flag badges on the front guard when I get my 308 built.

I had to change from the Globes because of the ride height. The offset didn’t make the engineer happy about how close the tyre was to the guard on full lock. After it’s registered they will likely get a run again from time to time.

I put the HQ Rally wheels on just to pass engineers, but I like them more that the globes after I painted and fitted them up.

I’ve seen a few widener HQ Rally wheels in 14”x8” for sale on marketplace.
I thought they would be perfect for the rear if I can get a pair.

You can get them made but better off with 15” as tyre choices are better. 8” have to be pretty much spot on the right offset if you are running a wide tyre like a 255 or 265. For a clean street use with a 235 or 245, 7” is safer.
If you are channeling HK then you want 5litre flags not 308. But if you want the HT 308 ones the flags are separate to the 308 so you could put 253 there as the 253 and 308 use the same holes. 253 is no less correct for HK than 308 is.
