Sounds like a weird topic I know, but curious to figure out the obvious differences between an LH and an LX SL model.

Not worried about the stuff like thinner/thicker gauge steel, double skin vs single skin panels.

The reason I ask is my car project is going to be a bit of a Frankenstein’s monster build from about 4 donors or parts from.

Probably most of the bits lean me towards an LH build, but I prefer the A9X look, so thought about building the base to match LX and go from there.

A couple of things I’ve picked as different so far.

- different door cards.
- different backs on front seats.
- is the dip switch on the column for LX vs floor for LH?
- door trim stainless mouldings.

I’m sure there are tons more.

Everything you said, yes.

Some other styling differences for the LX compared to LH are:

- Headlight Shape (round)

- Yellow and Orange colours on instrument cluster (rather than white)

- Satin silver finish on dash fascias (rather than textured black)

- Seat Insert Material differences

- Seatbelt style (CoolDrive style on LX-UC with plastic-bodied latches)

- Seatbelt mounting position for rear passengers (flat on parcel shelf vs. up against C-pillars)

- Different brake pedal ratio

- Black exterior door handles (if we're talking 4-door A9X)

- No separate letter badging & general badging differences

- Bonnet scoop

- Satin black bonnet, 'SLR 5000' warpaint on the spoiler, generally in silver (not on the sides on an A9X sedan), no blackout on the tail, no pinstripe on the sides, no small "SL/R 5000" stickers

There'd be a lot more than that. Are you wanting to create something that looks convincingly like it started off life as an LX?

I guess you need to figure out what vibe you're trying to put out. You want to satisfy that list (and more) if you want to lessen the frequency of people pointing things out at car-shows, but otherwise, most people just wouldn't know or care, so you might just choose to use the best example of the different bits you have, or the bits you like the look of most. For the most part I like just choosing my favourite bits from all the models.

Thanks Heath

Great info there.

You make a good point on the mix and match.

Most of the best bits I’ve got are LH, but I really like the A9X look. Probably not the end of the world to just build it as an LH with A9X blackouts and scoop.

I’m just spending ages now planning and kicking around options. I’ll eventually come out with a good direction for the build. 😁

If it wasn't such a long swim, I reckon you and I could swap projects. I have an LX that needs to be an LH.

And thats an early LX, it has the rear seatbelt mounts on the C pillar like LH, I modded it when it was mine to have the rear parcel mounted ones.

Yep. I'm just going to have to find a good set of doors and put my badges on the nosecone. It might seem a shame after all the time you took to collect the A9X bits for it, but I want to do a replica of the Bob Forbes L34.

I still haven't seen a body nearly as good as that one.
