Hi guys for anyone interested, I recently had the glass fall out of my drivers side door mirror housing and lost the little pivot washer. Also the glass broke.
Now you can buy a replacement glass cost $30. But it doesn’t come with the washer or a new fitting male socket. I think you’re supposed to remove the old one off the broken glass glue it to the new one then use the old washer and pop it back in. The other alternative is to buy the whole unit around $180.

and get it painted, mean while you have this housing you can’t really use.
issues I had were, once the glass comes out the first time, it’s prone to doing it again as the socket is worn also if you loose the pivot washer like me you have to do something that doesn’t really do the job.

So for the cost of a new mirror a Bunnings part a bit of stuffing around I came up with the following modifications that enable you to use the old housing and also should be able to re-do it, if the glass breaks again with ease. Attached File  5805E049-EC10-426D-A2B7-E7369B260DE6.jpeg   135.42K   4 downloads

you have to grind these down and drill them out.

the Bunnings part cost $7-10.

Then screwed upside down back into housing with new screws accessible from top

notice there is only 3 screws it’s because I couldn’t get 1 out.

Just glued new mirror onto the new ball joint face. It pivots well possibly needed a couple of stoppers glued on to stop excessive movement. Just have to reattach to car.
Hope this helps someone with another option cheers

Luv your work...those Bunnings thingos are useful. I used thesame thing for a clutch pedal stop in a track car.
Adjustable to be just right, and the black bit pivots to match the floor angle vs. pedal bracket angle.
Nice mirror fix.
