Hi All,

Asking a question for a friend.......

Can anyone advise if the front chassis rails are the same between LH/LX/UC/4/6/8 CYL?

Thanks in advance

In my opinion they are nearly the same. Slightly different where they meet the radiator support panel, but still usable. The LX had 3 tags on the end, both sides and bottom to spot weld to rad support the UC only has the side tags.

I used one UC rail on passenger side. And a LX on the drivers side when I replaced both of mine. If you can zoom in you can see where I welded the 3 tag front on the passenger rail end.

4cyl/6cyl/V8 stuff all makes no difference. But yeah the end of the UC chassis rail looks like this with two tabs:

And the LH/LX has another tab at the bottom, which is also spot welded:

Although you haven't asked this, additionally, the bodywork that goes at the front of the engine bay (battery tray/charcoal canister type areas) certainly is different on a UC!

I'd think that LH and early LX rails wouldn't have that brake hose bracket either (see Danny's photo above), since the brake hose terminated in the engine bay on earlier models, not that it would be hard to transfer.

Thanks guys.

The issue is similar to Danny's; an LH with a rusted out LH chassis rail, and the prospect of obtaining a UC replacement. Needed to confirm it would work.

Big help.

Cool. Well yeah it isn't uncommon to do something along those lines.

I mean the front of my car is essentially the same thing as that on both sides... it's just a pair of UC rails with LH/LX metal all around them and in my case a custom battery tray because I wanted to change that area, I don't recall needing to to suit the rail.
