G'day All

Trying to help my son BJ to authenticate or verify what this chassis number is from

AVL089122A of which I believe is for a VL, maybe a "Walkie"

Any help would be appreciated even if it is towards a Commodore site or guru

Thanks .............................. Barry

Yes, definitely VL and a Walkie but my son is wanting to know if the chassis number matches everything else

He has 3 VL's, one in my backyard (spares), one in his fiancee's parents backyard (spares) and one in his workshop with turbo RB30 pushing out 504 RWHP

BUT, he has always wanted a Walkie AND real one, not repro

RegardSS ..... Barry

The only one I can find is a 2-88 build. AVL 050033M. It was build number 174.

Does Holden Customer Service still exist?

How about asking Ben at HHS (not sure if he has Commodore records though)?

The engine would be hard to fake. VL Group A 4-bolt engines had an engine number prefix of "VW", Walkinshaw engines had a "VP" prefix. There are other ways to tell (like lifter bore diameter) but they are all 'some disassembly required'.

think they made 2 batches number count was roughly 750'ish...last lot sat in dealerships for ages untill they dropped prices severely to move them on for vn group a which came out at really bad time start of recession & huge price tag.

Hard to fake if know what parts they're meant to have & telltale items but should still be HSV archives plus some sort of history on most of the cars just like here if can find right people with info.

I was looking to buy one as a daily nearly 20 years ago when could get nice clean relatively low mileage ones for 25k-30k at a time when most people didn't like them which made me want one lol

GMH made an initial batch of 500 cars and they sold well. A second batch of 250 took a long time to sold. Some of the final cars were heavily discounted. My local dealer had one of these cars.

Holden had to make 500 VN group A's to go racing but the economy was in such bad shape only about 304 cars were made. V8 Supercars gave Holden an exemption from the 500 rule.

The first batch of VL Walkies was 513 cars not 500.
