Using eveyday high-qualty enamel to pain an engine block

I painted my block 20 odd years ago. I used standard acrylic to paint the rocker covers and' from what I remember', just regular type acrylic to paint the block due to the limited range of VHT colours.

From what I can see there is no discolouration anywhere on the engine even around the exhaust ports.

 

Has anyone else had experience using more regular type paint on their block? Could I be remembering this correctly (the enamel)?

Pretty sure that’s what was originally used .Should last for years.

Used this stuff ( Dupli Colour - Chev. engine red)) on a few engines, a few years ago. Both track cars, so they dont get used daily, but do get used.
