HELP!
I want to convert my VS block to roller cam. I’ve chucked in the new cam and lifters and all have plenty of clearance to the oil galley on the lifters - all except 1.  Cam is only a mild hydraulic, Comp 888241 with .552/.563 lift… with Morel 5208H tie bar lifters.  So, by all accounts should be fine… but isn’t.

So I am chasing any advice on machine shops that can do bronze lifter bores…preferably in QLD.   Transport is going to be a killer as it is.  I’m happy to pay for the short motor build, or build the motor and just get the machine work done.  Or even just the lifter bores done.  We have a good machine shop in town, but they don’t do lifter sleeves.

Anyone with any advice good or bad would be great. Don’t want to get stung and obviously not keen to lose a standard 304 block to shonky brothers.

Do you mean the oil gallery is uncovered by the lifter during its travel?

If so the cure is to use the factory lifters and spider plate. This is what I did with mine.

Yes Rexy, that’s right…on one lifter. It’s a non roller block, so how did you fit the spider and how much deeper is the oil gallery on a standard lifter?

Mine was/is a VT block. Others might know it there is a problem fitting the spider retaining plate into an earlier block. What era is yours?

Alternatively you could have a hunt around and see if any of the other aftermarket tie bar lifters have a longer body to keep the gallery covered.

What annoyed me most was that it was a crane cam and their lifters that was fitted and they were clearly incompatible!

Thanks Rexy, its a 1998 Series 2 VS.  I am pretty sure retrofitting a spider isn't a go-er. The Bronze lifter bores are the answer.  i have found 2 companies in Brissy and one in Ayr,.  JB Automotive in Ayr have a good rep, but John is sooo busy, i can't get an answer out of him when he might even be able to fit me in!   The other 2, I was hoping some on here might have had experience with... PLR Performance Engines  and  Advanced Engine Performance. I'm 1700kms away so its not easy to pop in and see them. Or, if there is anyone who has had good experience. Installing lifter bushes seems reasonably common to a whole range of engines, just not a common thing at machine shops. Its all a New Year exercise anyway, but I've been holding on for JB for a couple of months and figure i might have to look elsewhere.
