Hey guys,

As many of you would know, i've purchased an LX torry with reco'd 253 and reco'd celica box. At the moment the LX is not going anywhere, so i'd like to make the most of the 5speed while i can.

The LX is running a hydraulic clutch setup.

To fit this behind my 179HP would require the following (i'm assuming):
-6cyl bellhousing to suit celica box
-Spigot bush
-Pending clutch plate condition i'll probably need a new clutch plate
-Get my tailshaft yoke removed and the celica style one fitted
-Speedo gear/converter.

Thing is, in the time i have off work i dont have the time to convert my UC to hydraulic clutch. So i've got prices on the above, but still left with questions...

Does the LX to Celica crossmember fit UC's?
What setup does the celica box use for speedo connection?
Hard to fit the speedo cable adaptor?
How many litres of oil will the box take?

I can do the conversion myself in a couple of hours, no worries there! Just curious on the above...

Help appreciated!
Cheers
Keith

Great to hear this, Keith!!!

I understand you may need to shorten the tailshaft, but you can get a uni to suit Holden to Toyota...(don't quote me on it though!!!)

I can't see why the LX crossmember wouldn't fit UC?

I think you can get a Holden top/Toyota bottom speedo cable through Rare Spares.

Sorry, can't help with oil.

Gee, I hope you get this in mate, would be great for cruising.

Keep us posted!!!

uc dash may be different to lx , custom cables are $85 (although the uc speedo looks the same at the rear) Easyier to install then torana speedo cables (like screwing a lid on a bottle)
crossmember will fit
exacly 2.5L of oil

Well worth the conversion  Ideal for the highway :spoton:

My worked 6 is so cheap on fuel its shocking :D and thats giving it lots all the time.

* i dont think the shafts need to be shortened * i took an 1" off mine and didnt need it cut.
find a m20 4sp shaft, philo shafts are short as lol
Even better, steal the lx shaft and yoke, and the diff yoke aswell, its probly all tuff v8 style.

Just read Steve's post about tailshaft lengths and it appears you need a LC/LJ tailshaft behind a Celica 5 speed to fit LH/LX/UC, Keith.

i was told the lc/lj shafts are too short for the conversion haha
but i have heard that they fit before.

I recon test the shaft with yoke and get measurements, it may even just go straight in :spoton:

i bet mine would have

MMM! The LX has got a huge tailshaft, looks to be strengthened, i might just use that as it's gotta be damn near the right length for me to use.

I'll suss it out...
Cheers
Keith
