Pulled out the springs from my original LC GTR K-Frame. Surprised to find original GTR and XU-1 LC springs still in there. 

I've compared them to after market Kings (recommended for GTR) springs.

I was surprised to find out how different they are with an extra coil, thinner steel, taller and no flat section.

Lowered from a standard torana s spring is my knowledge. I bought the Kings as replacement of GTR springs?? Then I went lower again.

Old School was 1/2 inch (12.7mm) coil for standard,

 

 and 5/8 inch (16mm) heavy duty coil spring.

 

So 1/2" inch (hence more coils)  lowers more than 5/8" (less coils).

 

1/2 inch is smoother suspension, and 5/8 inch tougher suspension.

 

Amount of coils determines the overall height of Tory when fitted.

 

Old School was to lower the Tory 2 inch at front with the 5/8" coils

Aftermarket springs for this era car always seem to be shorter for the same ride height. I always assumed it was to make them safer to fit. Ever tried fitting original springs to a Holden or Torana from the 70's without a spring compressor? Piece of cake with aftermarket springs.

The lovells std 6 v8 lowered practically fell in the lc but these Khfs 08  std height king springs are  tight..

Hi All, thought this thread most relevant.

I have my left front suspension apart to replace bushes etc. (right side in next).

Having the spring out, I beleive its a King Spring KHFL-08, It measures 233mm similar to Marty image above - (dont let colour fool you, i painted the yellow springs black years ago).

Before pulling the suspension apart - and from years gone by that i have forgotten why, I never had the upper control arm bump stop fitted - maybe because i could not fit it.

Will the Standard height bump stop fit. Or will it ride constantly on the spring tower?
If so, are there shorter bump stops available?

Does it really matter - not rally jumping this car - LOL.

Jaso, mine rides the upper rebound bump rubbers with genuine LC H/Duty front springs.

If you lower the ride height from standard the bump rubber should sit further away from the tower.

Cheers Dave, Yeah i get what you mean.
Playing it out in my head, with the shorter spring length, the cross member sits lower in relation to lower control arm, which inturn raises upper control arm.
