Hey all .. park brake light wont go off and from what I have read it has come down to the proportioning valve light switch.
Thinking is it worth just getting a new switch or maybe refurbing the entire roportioning valve. Has anyone done tis themselves, hard, tricky or best to take it to someone who does it day in day out.
Have done a search on eBay and new/refrubed proportioning valves can be expensive, what are they worth to refurb?
Can you buy the switches just anywhere?

Unscrew the switch and put it back in. Light normally goes away from memory.

The propositioning valve that is not. It is there to warn of brake problems (Front or rear loosing pressor) Remove switch and replace to reset valve.
If it comes back on when you use the brakes best not drive the car before repairing the brakes. (Unless the switch is the actual fault)
Should be no need to bleed after resetting. If fluid leaks under pressor out of the valve or switch it will need resealing, if the switch is stuck on with no brake problems the plunger may be rusty. Remove clean reseal and reassemble.
Or the park brake light may have a problem / switch or wiaring. Always a good thing not to forget to check everything before replacing parts.
Start by unpluging the wire to the propositioning valve switch to see if the light goes out if it stays on check the park brake warning light wiaring, Switch and park brake lever

I thought pretty much all handbrake light switches be under the vinyl boot for the lever itself? Similar to the dome light switches in the door jambs
The proportioning valve and brakefail warning light is only involved in the foot brake hydraulic side of things, handbrake light totally seperate.
you are talking about the handbrake/parkbrake, right??
