Just removed my balancer to find the bonded rubber is cracked right round front and back

Are there any places that can recondition these in aus?
I suppose Adelaide, preferably.

I do have a power bond street series one here I could use, but I’d rather use this one
for the peace of mind being a big fat race type weighing in at 3.1 kilos.
The power bond spiel claims they are good for 6500rpm so that’s fine,
the fat one could be overkill, anyway, but I do think bigger is better in this case
Would like to phone up and have a yak to someone to see if it’s worth it (if it’s even possible)

Can’t identify it, either. 50 degrees of markings on it,
the hub looks like pro race brand but it is 15 - 20 years old

Any advice would be great,
Thanks

Is there much groove on the seal journal Bruce? Not sure journal is the right word. You know what I mean. I got a blue 202 one from Car Parts Plus was $120. They are a heavier unitbut i dont have the figures. Would reconditioning be viable mate? I know they ain't cheap.

Howdy, Clay
Not quite sure what you mean by seal journal, mate
All I know is those splits go right round the rubber, front and back,
and rubber’s a bit bulgy on the front, too. Hasn’t spun at all. Yet.
She’s not going back on like that

Would reconditioning be viable is the question.
Found a mob in America called “damper doctor”
so I guess it can be done. How much, I don’t know.
Worth it? Don’t know either. Decent ones like that are pricey
so it seems a shame to just bin it without looking into it first.

The powerbond one is a step up from the standard replacements though.
Weighs 1.55 kg.
Motor is currently getting a fair gee-up, so hoping it will be good enough
Thanks, mate

I hoped you’d chime in, Warren
and I hate to say, I reckon you’re right.
What’s another $311, anyway?
I’ll hang it on the shed wall

What’s your opinion on that power bond one

Yer I mean the bit the seal runs on. Main reason for discarding is the surface gets grooved and leaks oil in my experience.

A&A Iglio engineering at Wingfield makes and repairs them, looks like one of theirs.

I use Powerbond balancer on most engines, but when I seen that you had a heavier type, I went straight to the ProRace balancer.

With you now, Clay, timing cover seal area looks like it was machined yesterday, no worn groove there.

Top tip hip6, thanks. I will contact them just to find out

That powerbond one would probably survive with the amount of curry it’ll get from me,
I suppose I could use it and keep my eye on it for a while. Probably worrying about nothing there

I will let you all know what iglio’s have to say.

Thanks for the help

Just got off the phone, , he says it sounds like one of his
$100 - $150 to re-do the rubber. Not too bad, really.
Will take it to him for a looksee when I can.
Will add the rest of the story then.
Thanks again fellers

Took balancer in to show him today
Great little engineering workshop, he’s actually retired now but still can help me out
In with the hotrodders and revhead scene, one of those “last of a dying breed” types.
He reckons it would be ok to use, just mark it across the hub and outer ring
and keep an eye on it. It’s about an inch thick of rubber, it will creep sideways well
before it flies off into the radiator.
Or, could re-do it like new, $150 to $200 bucks.
Hmmm

Do it like new, you know it's ok.
