How can it be a virgin block if it's been decked?
Doesn't really matter if it's a virgin anyway if it's got half-a-million kms wear out of it (who knows?), you'd really need to measure it up and even then possibly have it tested for core shift to see how much machining it will stand?
And then there's the issue of no engine number...

Yes, but you never know with used engines, always important to get a receipt with name and address on it with the engine number. Without a number, if it ever gets x-rayed and the number is stolen you are in a pickle.
I went to buy an engine years ago. It had been in a shed for years. Engine was legit but it had been removed/replaced from a car and car was later stolen. Engine number had not been changed on the car prior to it being stolen, so the number was recorded as stolen - and turned up years later when I checked it via REVS against a chassis number off a rusty wreck. I could have spent money rebuilding it only to have it taken off me as it belonged to the insurance company on paper. It would have been sorted in the end if I had bought it, but you can end up being in trouble for receiving stolen goods and have to go through the legal system to sort it out. In this case I went back to the seller and told him, and he figured out what had happened, but it was up to him to clear the engine number with Police.
