Hi

As the subject says ... late 6 cylinder trimatic in a UC ... crossed one of the bolts getting it in and now seem to have stuffed the threads in the converter mounts ... can't reach tightening torque - they go "ping" and let go :-(

Any suggestions ? Don't have an extra set of competent hands til at least next weekend to help drop the box again. Was thinking I could try a helicoil and some locktite but am a bit wary considering what the bolts are for ...

These are a blind thread into the converter body? Or captive nuts on tabs? If they are captive nuts you could try and right angle drill the thread out and use a nut on a bolt. Just make sure the bolt is the right grade. Otherwise pull the box out and go from there. Are you sure you have the right bolts?

Just threaded into a boss in the 'riser' as far as I can tell - it's hard to see on the late trimatics without the cutaway bellhousing.

They are the right bolts - got a fresh set from a wrecker as I stripped one of them and wanted three matching. They're what looks like a UNF thread on a 5/8" or 11/16" head.
