G'day All,
In the latest edition of AMCM at the back in the section on "By the Numbers" they talk about the LX SS's & SLR 5000's. They have a factory GMH released picture of both these models in Papaya. I was talking to an elderly gentleman the other day (who is currently restoring a Papaya Torana) & he informed me he has a mate who is a GMH executive in Melbourne. This executive has access to the microfishes & he told my friend that records state that only 25 4 door Papaya LX SLR 5000's were ever produced. Because LX's were released Feb 1976 my letter from GMH states that mine was one of the first build as it was made on the 9th Feb 1976. The LX 4 door in the picture has 18X (slate black vinyl with cloth seat inserts) trim code interior. My LX has this trim code also. Early LX's also has the word "TORANA" in individual metal letters on the right hand side nose cone instead of the sticker like later ones had, mine has the metal individual letters.
Is this my car?????????
The colour shade of the photo of my car is quite decieving. In the sun it is a hell of a lot paler in colour.

Printing processes have changed a fair bit since the 70's as well. Unfortunately 1970's mag pics aren't the best.

Don't know how you'd tell unless they had the VIN of the car on the ad, or did a trace back through previous owners. Only way to tell for sure, but I'd doubt there'd be a link between Holden dudes present for the shoot, and who it was sold to (the missing link).

The cars Holden used for those sorts of shots were usually HACKs, cars they never sold to the public and later crushed. Note the one in the pic has no left mirror too.

Chrome door handles on that SLR5000 Mule. I think that the pics would have been taken in the early development stage, way before Feb 76 IMHO.

OK fellas this is a Papaya Commodore that is original and definitely has not been painted. It even carried that name on the back wheel guard.

Hope it helps the colour debate.
