Are the nankang's noisy ? Are you going to lower it, particularly the rear ?

I wish tyre manufacturers would start making 215/60/13's again but I know it's never going to happen.

Nankang make 235/60/13 and 235/50/13. I saw some 215/50/13 recently too.

215/60/13 is very close to the OD of the original fitment tyres for XU1. The 205/60/13 are smaller OD which means true road speed is approx 5kph lower than 100kph indicated on the speedo.

I think 205/60/13 will actually be closer but remember radials and cross ply gross differently at speed, so not sure how to account for that.

The original B70H13 are 5.9729 feet rolling circumference, which is 71.675".

205/60/13 by design are 71.2"

215/60/13 are 72.7"

So 205 is about 0.65% smaller than BR70H13 and 215 is about 1.4% bigger.

Im going to be needing new 13in Tyres for my black car as the current WANLI's are now 10 years old.... They were a 195/70/R13.

I only have standard rims. Are they 5.5in?

Im thinking a 205 might be way to go. Maybe I should also give this Nankang a shot.

Brad

Your standard tyre was BR70H13. In a radial the H rating was 130mph (201kmh), in a cross ply it was 125mph (209kmh). So whatever you buy has to exceed this. The modern H rating is 210km/h so that and above will be OK. Incidentally from what I understand this is a problem for GTS327, GTS350 and the GT-HO's running 14" tyres, it is almost impossible to match the tyres these things had as they were normally special "high speed H" tyres as there was nothing made in Australia capable of between 130-140mph. GMH had to get D70 tyres specially made for the GTS327. Today finding suitable 14" tyres rated for over 130mph means V rated and there are bugger all around rated for that. We are lucky with the GTS327 that you can still buy 185/70/14 Michelin XAS TL in a V rated tyre which is very close to an original option but the correct size 175HR14 XAS version is only H rated. XY GT-HO owners are catered for too if they are running the 15" wheels as you can buy replica Dunlop Aquajets in ER70R15 as V rated from the USA.

So this 205/60 should be about as close as I can get?

Yes. For either the N70 (5.5") or N66 (6") rims. There was an optional CR70H13 tyre.

Apparently Nankang also make a 205/65/13 which is also closer to original diameter than a 205/60/13.

205/65/13 is bigger than 215/60/13. They will be 73.8" circumference.

195 should be fine but check with tyre shops. Most brands seem to recommend up to 185 on a 5.5" rim and 195 or 205 on a 6".

Ask the tyre fitter. I'm sure it will work, just outside the tyre's natural fit. I've had 245/50/14 on 7" so surely a 205 on a 5.5" will fit. But it's up to the tyre seller/fitter.

I just did a Google search. Most places that have a guide have charts that state for 5.5" rim you use 175 or 185 with 195 as the maximum. 6" rims show 185 or 195 with 205 as the maximum.

So before ordering any I'd ask the guy who is going to fit them if he is legally allowed to.

Yes, but the originals are 71.675" so the closest in rolling diameter is 205/60/13. B70H13 (71.675") is somewhere in between a 175/70/13 (71.14") and 185/70/13 (72.87") rolling diameter.

If you only drive the car occasionally, 205/60/13 Nankang AR-1 are a great treaded track tyre. Would last a fair while with spiradic road use Super sticky, at least as good as Yoky's, but only around $200 per corner.

I have the 2020 edition of the Tyre and rim association of Australia standards manual in front of me. For a 205/60R13, rim widths from 5.5" to 7.5" are acceptable.

For tyre speed ratings in Australia, the tyre must have a speed rating that is either:

A: No less than what is on the tyre placard. (or vehicle top speed [as is calculated in ADR 24] if the vehicle was manufactured prior to the introduction of ADR 23)

Or

B: Greater than the maximum speed limit in the state in which it is registered.

NSWis different to that, or it was in 2019 - I last looked pre Covid.

It says that the tyres must meet or exceed the original fitment tyre speed rating.

Or if the original tyres are rated higher than 180kmh you can reduce them below what is on the tyre placard but not to below the vehicle’s top speed. If you do this you should fit a label to the inside of the windshield warning the driver.

Why I investigated this was for my GTS327 and what I was legally allowed to Engineer it with. What was unclear was if the top speed applied to the original car or how it was Engineered. As in even if it had a 500hp big block, if it had a 3.73:1 rear axle the top speed was way below 130mph.

The calculation for a vehicles top speed (according to ADR 24) is the vehicle is loaded to it's maximum weight, then accelerated at WOT from a standing start. The speed achieved after covering 1000 metres is the vehicle top speed. So even if it can pull 200 mph on the salt flats, if it only reaches 179 kph after 1000 metres, when fully loaded to maximum weight, then an "S" rated tyre is sufficient.
