One part that I think is getting harder to find is the plastic gear in the wiper motors. Most of these are cracked or broken and one day there won't be any left.

As some of you know I play around with resin moulding as a side interest so I decided to try and remake this part. It's the most complicated piece I've attempted yet and I've invested in a pressure pot to get better results.

Due to the nature of the part the cog needs to be cast onto the axle shaft using a two part mould and the axle and cog have to be lined up to get the park position correct. Anyway here's a few pics of my second attempt which I'm now going to let fully cure before testing it in a motor and running it under load for a time period.

I'm focusing on the Lucas motors which so far have two different cog variants. If this version succeeds I will track down a good sample of the other style and make those as well. Pictured below is my copy and the original.

I will keep you updated on test results.

Cheers

Marty

You are a very talented man Marty.

Sally is lucky to have a man who is so good with his hands.

Can recall someone doing this with speedo cogs a while back.

Not sure it ended well.

Different material perhaps?

Hope it works though.

Cheers

I'm leaving this alone Dave.

I'm hoping this works out Rob. Investing a bit of time and money into it. Be a shame if it just chewed the teeth off.

Thanks for the positive comments guys. I've greased the cog and fitted it. Connected it to 12v and ran it for 3 mins. Started applying load with my hands and so far it's great. The more load I apply only slows the motor down. I'll leave it in grease for a while and continue to test. Then remove cog and check for wear or damage.

Marty
