72 lj Xu-1 fuel tank are the underside painted and inside left raw ? What finish is the underside ?

The paint specs that I have seen call for only visible areas to be painted black. I have seen an untouched example and was black across the rear that wrapped slightly around the sides and bottom. It was raw metal over the remainder including under the vinyl cover which was glued down.

Holden did this on a few different cars over the years. If the tank was too 'shiny', they just gave it a quick spray with black enamel on the visible part as it went down the line.

 

EJ & EH were the same, where you could see a large shiny part of the tank, thru the LH inner guard. This was given given a quick squirt of black before the LHR wheel went on.
