Everyone on the Forum is here as a result of our collective love for Toranas. However like most l have other automotive interests. In my case it includes historic sports and racing cars, MGs in particular. MGs once enjoyed great success across the world in racing, rallies, hill climbing and speed records. Unlike other marques such as Bugatti, Alfa, Mercedes etc, etc MGs have always remained relatively affordable. So when your wife says “stop looking at it and talking about it and just go and buy it” what else can you do but go and buy it? Its an MG KN 1935, six cylinder OHC with crank driven supercharger, Wilson pre-selector gearbox and giant 13” drum brakes. Makes fabulous noises and capable back in the day of 200 kph when most ordinary cars would struggle to maintain 100 kph.

A client of mine who is a big Porsche fan did a full resto on an MG TC a couple of years ago. Beautiful car when it was finished but I missed out on that ride he promised when it was finished. He didn't keep it long before selling it.

An old mate of mine had a black MG B and a white MG A in his younger years.

Sadly the B was a pile of poo that had been polished.

I used to have my '57 Chevy on club rego through the MG Car Club in Newcastle. They used to run the King Edward Park hill climb each year. Lots of nice MG's especially a couple of the V8 ones.

Some of you will know Ian Edgar, he has a 1946 model that uses methanol when he races it.

Ian's historic racing TC is known as the meatsafe due to the pattern of holes drilled into the bonnet sides.

Father in law had a TC when he was courting. Quite the dashing boy racer apparently.

Not really a big MG fan, but credit where it's due, as you say, compared to the cars of the day they were a real hot rod.

I do think that supercharger sticking out the front screams " get outta my way"! I'm coming around!

 

Bloke next door has a couple of them, including a lightweight Midget Group S race car. Pretty fast little car too.

We run  our LJ with the HSRCA events in NSW and there's always a heap of various MGs at the historic meetings.

 

Congrats on the purchase, looks very tidy indeed.

Harry Firth owned and raced one from the '50's up to the 1980's.
